You mean "agreeing with" right?

I'm an Iced Earth lad myself, as far as the metal genre goes.

I agree with Sousaphionist that genre classification is a bit of a pain...I just listen to what I like and like what I listen to. But, as everything in life seems to, we need some way of breaking things down to better explain/distribute the nature of something - be it music, anime (or animation in general), or even people. Baka. But in certain aspects such things are necessary. I'll get back to you on where...my head hurts.

So, going semi-back-on-topic...

I don't know if I could be called a "real" anything fan. I listen to music appilcable to certain genres, but I've done so by involving myself in the music scene...well, as much as a person can with no real ties to the industry itself. I search online for new artists (not downloading, just looking up...support your favorite artsists!!!) I listen to the samples they offer on sites where applicable, and if I like them, I rush for the CD. I do this with whatever genre floats through my ears, be it through an AMV or on TV.

So I guess instead of replying and actually adding my 2 cents, I believe all I've done is arrive at a new question:

Do you mean "real fan" as in listens to "true metal bands"...

...or "real fan" as in someone who not only listens, but supports the artists they claim fandom to?

Since i want to say something, but don't really know what to say to contribute, i'll just tell the merry tale of how i got into Metal!

First of all...My Mother...in my opinion the ONE TRUE METALHEAD was a big fan of Rock/Metal in her teens mostly Black Sabbath, Marilyn Manson, and some other bands i can't spell :P

And then when i arrived, got on my legs, and was sent to school, all the other kids listened to Pop stuff like "Spice Girls" *:shiver:* and other things that i've thankfully forgotten (Most of them were swedish pop and YOU DO NOT want to know how that sounds). Then i was all like "What is this?" since i had been raised with Metal and Growl constantly coming from the living room's Stereo...

Anyway, at one time during music class in first grade, everybody was going to bring a CD of their favourite artist (You see where this is going?)

And after some time it was my turn, and i had brought a CD mom burned for me with Welcome home (Sanitarium) by Metallica, which i thought was good so i wasn't thinking about how people would react...

Now of course, Sanitarium isn't a very extreme song by todays standards, but for a music teacher for first graders it was apparently a little extreme (She didn't even let the song go past 1:55!) , so my mom and i had to meet my primary teacher, and it was decided i would not have to bring music anymore...

But that didn't stop my mom from continuing to raise me into a pale Metalhead...and now i'm here, music is my life and i've started making musicvideos too

I love you mom :D

I don't see much wrong with that logic, actually. LP is real enough as far as music goes, and certainly at a more accessible level than most.

Pure talent, or pure metal, or ultimate bass playing though? No, not really. You'd best look elsewhere for that. But if accessible and straightforward mix of metal, rap and angsty pop elements is what you're looking for, knock yourself out.

Myself, I take no interest in them.

God damnit Oto, stop being so logical and pacifistic. It's sickening.

I thought this thread was dead by now, anyway, after all my self-depriciatory rants here and whatnot

Can you just say, for once, that you dislike something? Maybe?

hey now, don't try to change the man flint, maybe you should stop and think that maybe you're the one with the problem....... yeh uh huh, but you didn't think about that. As for LP, I liked there first album til you they became popular. then i heard it so much on the radio i wanted to take a sharp object and jab it through my ear. thank God for bands like 3rd Strike and 30 Seconds to Mars. Bands that sould be pop.... but for the greater good, are not. 3rd Strike has the right amount of metal with just a hint of rap.... makes for good music. and as for 30 Seconds... they get a category of there own.
