The non-anime site policy
I've been away from the site for a good long while. Last time I was here there was alot of bitching about non-anime music videos, but no action being taken about it. To my surprise, I come back today to find that somebody has been going through the list of footage used in posted AMVs and marking certain material "Confirmed Anime" and other material "Confirmed Non-Anime". Nice to see the site is finally getting serious about keeping all those filthy american animation and live action videos off the database. But I see a few problems.
Sonic Adventure is Anime but Sonic 3 is not? Its so pixelized they must be judging by the box-art.
Aeon Flux is not Anime but Reign: Alexander is? Its the exact same director, animation team, and style.
Teen Titans; animated in japan and CLEARLY classic anime style is non-anime?
The original transformers; animated in the US and CLEARLY a non-anime style is anime?
Who is making these descisions anyway? If your going to descriminate, you should at least get some consistant rules.
In case you can't tell, my earlier comments on "filthy" videos were sarcastic. I'm sure I'll be ruthlessly punished for this. But my opinion is that animation is animation. Everything is outsourced to japan these days anyway. The line is completely blurred.
I actually read up the forum history before posting this. Seems the arguement for why AnimeMusicVideos.org means anime goes something like this: "The site is called, Anime Music Videos.org. Anime is explicitly states as the only acceptable medium for these music videos. Furthermore, this site has a purpose: to promote the creation and sharing of Anime Music Videos. Any other kind of music video does not belong here and has its own place somewhere else."
To those of you who share the above sentiment I say this:
Arguement 1)
The Internet at large had a purpose. It was created for the sharing of research and academia between college professors. The creators of the internet must have shed tears of blood when the first stamp-collection was auctioned on e-bay. They must be haunted in their nightmares by all those couples meeting through e-harmony. And of course there's no end to the suicides over all the money changing hands through Paypal. I won't even get into the porn.
My point? This site has grown beyond its purpose. There is nowhere else as organized and well run for sharing fan music videos of any kind. The fact is, all those live action music vids, game music vids, and of course, non-japanese animated music vids were created BECAUSE of the AMV movement. And who can say that AnimeMusicVideos.org hasn't lead that movement? All those non-anime music videos or NAMVs you disdain so much are descendents of AMVs and thats why they belong here. There is no logical reason that the site shouldn't continue to grow and expand upon its purpose.
Arguement 2)
Lets face it, we're all geeks here. Anybody who puts in the time and care nessesary to make a quality music video of any kind of a brother to me. Of course, maybe all the rest of you just have too many friends and can't afford to take on any more.
If you've ever seen two grown men come to blows (or slaps anyway) over who would win in a fight between James Kirk and Jean Luc Picard you shouldn't have a hard time seeing why its dumb to take footage used in a fan-music-video, call it "non-anime" (as though thats an insult), and black-list it from the site. Exactly what do you think your protecting anyway? Phade's hard won server space? I wonder how many donations have come from artists with NAMVs. Even if its none, you'd cut a 5 star Samurai Jack or Matrix vid to make room for another 0 star DBZ-Linkin Park vid? Nice priorities.
Arguement 3)
Whats in a name? AnimeMusicVideos means if its not "Anime" it doesn't belong? Fair enough, but there are 2 other words there too. Lets examine "Music". I notice there are 71 videos listed with "music" by Nobuo Uematsu. And who knows how many others are just labeled "Final Fantasy Soundtrack." I wonder if Uematsu knows what the word "music" means? I don't know him personally, but I'm pretty sure he calls it "ongaku". Unfortunately, Ongaku is not in the site name, so maybe all the japanese music should be pulled with the american animation. Of course, you couldn't write Ongaku the proper way anyway BECAUSE THIS SITE IS IN ENGLISH!!!!! Am I the only person that sees the farce in a rule that amounts to banning the use of footage with english dialog from an english web-site?!? Thats like posting a sign that says "If you can read this, you shouldn't be reading this"
Sidewalk has "Walk" in the name, but that doesn't mean you can't run or Sell Lemonaid or play Hopsotch or tool around on your Segway. Of course, you might be threatened by crotchety old men wielding the 1-2 punch of whining AND shaking a fist in the air. They might even say something like "Sidewalks are for walk'n!" Funny how much that sounds like "AnimeMusicVideos.org is for Anime."
I like to think I've layed out my arguements logically. And that anyone reading this would look at them as such. But I'm sure some mod will see it merely as an attack on his tiny ego and ban me. Well thats fine, maybe I'll be pleasantly suprised at the maturity of the AMV community. Or maybe I'll have to find somewhere new to post my AMVs and NAMVs

lol, i don't want to sound like an ass, but this thread is mostly what everyone else tried to argue... yet no one understands...
this site is a catalog of anime music videos. so yes, a 0 star linkin ball z video has higher priority over a 5 star samarai jack video. Anime is defined as what ever the admins want it to be. The reason some shows are still under "non-confirmed" is just that. they havn't been confirmed as anime because the admin hasn't confirmed it (i think... tell me if i'm wrong).
The music portion shouldn't really be an issue here... I see no relation to video footage. just cause a video is listed with a track from the ff soundtrack means nothing... at least it's not "i dunno". The audio you use has nothing to do with anime or where it comes from... Probably would've made a better arguement over trailers... even then, it's never been a problem as long as you use anime. your arguement here is stupid.
Back to your first arguement:
"This site has grown beyond its purpose. There is nowhere else as organized and well run for sharing fan music videos of any kind."
whos problem is this? phade and many other people have put A LOT of work into creating this website... it's not their job or responciblity to accomidate what people want. this website is for ANIME music videos, not live action. why should phade all of a sudden spend his time and money to accomidate others just because no one else will do what he's done? you can't yell at bill gates for not making software for linux... or demand him to do so. he develped windows and has no obligation to write software for something he doesn't support.
here is the #1 thing you and everyone should realize... you don't own this website... phade does. so what ever he thinks is what's gona happen. if he says tranformers are anime and teen titains isn't... that's the law. if you don't like it, then either leave or deal with it. stop these stupid threads that go no where... if you don't like what this website offers, then why come here?

But what about the games? There's so many video game music videos..Wouldn't making it only anime music videos mean you'd have to take out all the video game music videos too? I mean..I'm not really complaining about anything. It's just a thought. It IS the maker of the site's descission..although in a way it would also be the people's in the site because they may loose donators if they start cracking down on stuff too hard. Anyways, back to what I was saying..I don't think I'd consider something like Resident Evil 2 an anime. Would anyone else?

This site has allways bein about anime music videos. The main words their are anime and video. amv's are fan art. this site is a place to share this type of fan art. this fan art is supose to appeal to people who enjoy anime. this site doesnt contain anime fan literature or pictures. their are other sites for that. this site if for fan art anime music videos. no mater what this sites, or amv's in generals, significance and influnece to fan video editing, its still a place for fan anime music videos. and who knows, mabey machinima started out because someone saw a bunch of amv's and had an idea for making films with game footage. regardless, this place isnt for GMV's or NAMV's, its for anime music videos. and the generaly accepted defenition of anime at this board is animation created in japan. you realy have to try and get that concept in your head.
oh and, like zarxrax said, if namv's boomed, you'd see american animation companies throwing twenty thousand dollar law suites at 12 year old kids who watched amv's and wanted to get creative with windows movie maker.

Digression.Arguement 1)
The Internet at large had a purpose. It was created for the sharing of research and academia between college professors. The creators of the internet must have shed tears of blood when the first stamp-collection was auctioned on e-bay. They must be haunted in their nightmares by all those couples meeting through e-harmony. And of course there's no end to the suicides over all the money changing hands through Paypal. Prove it. I want hard facts, not your handwaving. My point? This site has grown beyond its purpose. There is nowhere else as organized and well run for sharing fan music videos of any kind. The fact is, all those live action music vids, game music vids, and of course, non-japanese animated music vids were created BECAUSE of the AMV movement.
Actually, there is a very logical reason, and it goes to the root of all of your arguments. And who can say that AnimeMusicVideos.org hasn't lead that movement? All those non-anime music videos or NAMVs you disdain so much are descendents of AMVs and thats why they belong here. There is no logical reason that the site shouldn't continue to grow and expand upon its purpose.
AnimeMusicVideos.org exists for anime music videos only; nowhere in its mission statement does it state any intention to "lead" the "fan music video community", or having any aspiration to do so.
Of course, this statement depends on what "anime" is. Perhaps clearer rules are needed so that it can spark more debate over what anime is and what it is not. Fine; we'll clarify that later.
I think you would have avoided making an ass of yourself and have accomplished something far more significant by requesting a formalization of rules by which the "animeness" of a source could be determined.
Appeal to emotion, not to logic.Arguement 2)
This final "argument" of yours is entirely illogical. It's based on a very poorly veiled slippery slope argument.Arguement 3)
The idiots reading this would think your arguments to be logical. Everyone else can easily see through them.I like to think I've layed out my arguements logically. And that anyone reading this would look at them as such.
