dream theater is 'complex and intellegent' music too, but it doesn't change the fact that it FUCKING sucks.

See, pretentiousness is still a debatable issue. Some people (myself included) do like music that combines scale and skill. Others prefer what they consider no-frills creativity. Punk and such tends to simplify things rather than complicate them, because according to them pretentious is bad. You could relate it to art of the likes of Dada where everything was ought to be original/really creative while looking ass-simple.

Actually, it's sort of ironic, but while I'm not a fan of punk, I'm a big fan of Dada-rock. How do I rationalize liking both prog-rock (and possibly -metal) and that kind of music at the same time? Who knows.
As long as it sounds plausible to me

Those are some pretty catchy melodies. You can listen to them without following the lyrics or tryin to get the story. Everything else needs a bit more thought to be put in, in order to fully comprehend the meaning.

What I meant was I seconded Flint the dwarf's comment. I don't think Dream Theater sucks. Dream Theater is amazing!
