It's one of the simplest processes in the world, and there's a guide for it right on this site.
On the contrary, I have only ONE source for anime, and it is a fansub source. I cannot aquire anime footage any other way. :(
That's not what inthesto was saying.

S/he was saying that, even if you DO use fansubs as your source, you can still crop the subtitles out so that your viewers don't have to see them.

VirtualDub is a free, open source video capture/processing/etc. program for Windows. However, the preferred form of the program these days is VirtualDubMod.
Around here it's used most commonly for final compression (with DivX/XviD and MP3), but it can also be used for pre-processing.

You can load up a video in VDub(/Mod) and apply its "null transform" filter to access the cropping options, which allow you to shave set numbers of pixels off each side of the video. To get rid of fansubs, you'd crop pixels off the bottom (usually). You can then save the clip to a new AVI (be sure to set in and out points to mark the clip you want, or the whole thing; the version I have doesn't seem to want to mark the whole video by default anymore).

Of course, this could be done even more easily (and without having to create new big AVI files) with AVISynth...

Ok, so I know what that program is now. Thanks!

On another note, I'd rather not shave off footage. That cuts stuff off that I'd like to keep, even if it is slightly obscured by subtitles. In some cases, I've actually had fun with the subtitles. I have one vid where I matched the song lyrics to the subtitles twice, just for kicks. And Shada has a vid in which I think the subtitles actually make the vid more enjoyable; it moves slowly, and the subtitles help the viewer follow the story (kinda like watching a soap opra or something).

If Shada reads this, it's your 'Hatori's Love" vid I'm referring to. ^_^ Especially in the bridge, where Akito looses it. The subs really add a lot. Kinda like reading and watching the story at once. The subs take the place of dialogue.

Ok, I read it. Thanks for the blatant advertisement, Zelda. lol. In any case, that's the one vid of mine that people keep telling me that it makes them burst into tears. Wierdly, I've been told that sometimes the subtitles does add to that vid. But only in places, in my opinion. HOwever, if I were to crop it, I would lose VERY important visuals (like in once scene where Hatori would be nearly cut out of the frame entirely).
Oh well.
