I don't officially condone fan-subs... although there are some obscure things (especially with asian cinema) that options are, shall we say, even less than dismal. x2 on Otohiko's "catching nuances" (I hope, instead of nuisances) that the official translation misses. I avoid them as much as possible, but even I have been known to capitulate, though I make deletion a practice.

Fansubs are a good way to obtain anime while they're still not licensed.
That's about it. :?
I've seen a lot of fansubs and ended out buying the series I liked.
It's the "trial & error" scheme.
It's good to be able to view the product before buying it.
