Yes, that was three years ago, time to move on believe it or not. Even if I had lost someone in that tragedy, I wouldn't break out in tears when someone wants to use it for humorous effect. Try to be a little open-minded; or is that beyond your cognitive capacities?
For your "friend"... how about instead of waking up every day "without a father," you wake up every day with another way to face the bitch that is life? Don't use a national tragedy as an excuse to garner pity. Move on, and live life as it should be lived. That doesn't mean you shouldn't be wary of the bad things that happen, or that you shouldn't pause for silence for a national tragedy, but there's no reason to change your life. Especially with a population this large.
