Flashy AMV's are overrated...
Many AMV's ( however bad ) are given good opinions/ratings just coz they contain some flashy effects.. ( this topic started out in my other forum but I needed more opinions.. ).
Take that one "What you got" -by reiville ... another DBZ AMV. <sigh>
The creator did nothing but fade in and out scenes every 0.5 seconds. The song was so fast that you couldnt see any sync and there were no filters which is really basic and kinda pathetic in the sense of imagination. Yet, ppl were all like "..wow.." . It really jiggles my boggle (lol)....
( I could name another one but everyone on this site would get offended). The point is that ppl are like children in that they're easily swayed by anything flashy.. Dont get me wrong many other flashy AMV's turn out brilliant if done the right way...
Does anyone follow?
...or am I alone?

Most really flashy AMV's give me a headache. It seems funny to me to make an AMV that has nothing but these fast ass flashes in it....because you can barely see whats going on....especialy when they do lots of scene switches with the flashes.
Yea, so it took a lot of time to put all those flashes in there...but it really only took you half an hour of actual editing your clips before you put all those flashes in there.
thats just my opinion though.

Well, a flashy AMV usually will do better in the ratings and short term popularity...
Non flashy video (most of all Dramatic ones) tend to not do so good (just look at the top ten and star ratings and tell me how many are flashy video and/or comedy), but they tend to endure a lot longer (i.e. are remembered for a lot longer thant the flashy ones)...
This pretty much is the same comparison as with movies...

Usually, that's true. But not if you just so happen to be this guy.Vlad G Pohnert wrote:Non flashy video (most of all Dramatic ones) tend to not do so good
Kusoyaro: We don't need a leader. We need to SHUT UP. Make what you want to make, don't make you what you don't want to make. If neither of those applies to you, then you need to SHUT UP MORE.

Chigou!
nonnonono! you guys misunderstood.. theres nothing wrong with a good flashy AMV if ( like I said ) its done right! My problem are those that get credit for not deserving it! infact, flashy AMV's WILL stand out more then slower ones since, lets face it, they're harder to make. But when ppl RELY on the effects for the enjoyment of the AMV then that pisses me off. Coz in my opinion an AMV just reallyy needs good sync in some form (lip, booms etc. ) for it to get you amped...

Re: Chigou!
Nobody misunderstood; Wong just stated his opinion, and Vlad stated his view on flashy vs. non-flashy. When people start bitching at you for saying flashy videos suck... then you can say they misunderstood. ;pAdAmisK wrote:nonnonono! you guys misunderstood..

Just to gauge my opinion of trait in question, I'd have to characterize flashiness as correlating soley to the digital effects score (not set in concrete). However there is such a thing as excess. And to agree with the entirety of Vlad's first post, I will say that remains true in most senarios.

Yeah i get wot u mean.. But u know flashy looks cool ...But i can understand why u cant stand it coz when a vid is comepletly sync and stuuf but without the flashy kids r just like *booooring* But i look more to the chosen scenes..i like to *drool* watch good scenes with good music..and of couse the sync must be right. But i'm tryin to make some good vids...but it just wont work. (allready pulled out all my hair lol) so when it really doesn;t work with the sync i chose the chicken way and thats just make it look sync
