-- if it helps any, mine follows a different Guide:

DVD --- > Smart Ripper --- > ###.vob to hard drive.

VirtualDubMOD, de-interlace or telecide, --- > CorePNG.

from there, my Editer can do the rest.

CorePNG --- > Descreet 6.0 --- > VurtualDub 1.4.10 --- > AMV.avi 8-)

-- use the Guides when ever possible; my way seems to only work for me!

It can. If you're using VDubMod 1.5.x, go to the Streams menu and bring up the streams list, then click "Disable". If you're using VDubMod 1.4.x, I believe there's an option on the Audio menu to disable the audio.
taifunbrowser wrote:Also, my setting, I just saw your last post on the other thing, and you said the best codec to choose when exporting from wmv, and I realize that was probably my biggest mistake (just choosing the default setting) ok, well, is there nething else I should fix? lol
You didn't answer the question -- what setting is that? From what you say below, I assume you're talking about DV AVI, which is probably the best quality you'll get out of WMM (but see downwithpants's WMM2 guide and links).
taifunbrowser wrote:oh, and I forgot a step- wmv saves as an avi, and then I "save as" to an MPEG... I know you'll think thats horrible, so sock it to me- what do I download to make an avi to an MPEG efficiently?
I don't think it's horrible, I'm just curious -- you said you "save as" an MPEG, but in what program?

Go to the Start Menu, find the DivX folder under the Programs list, open up the decoder configuration, and under the Quality Settings tab, check the box that says "Disable Logo".

You mean Windows Media Player? If so, just... no. That cannot be good.

Windows Media Player isn't meant to encode files. If you "Save As..." in it, all that does is create a copy of the input file with a different name. What I'm saying is that, if you play an AVI in WMP and try to save it with the .MPG extension, your "MPEG" file is still actually going to be an AVI, the same as the file you put in. Renaming it as an MPEG does not actually make it so.

What you need is TMPGEnc or some other program that's meant for encoding MPEGs. Also check out ErMaC's guide to encoding MPEG-1 with TMPGEnc.
