My college's IT people fear filesharing apps, and have therefore set up the firewall to block every one of them, except (for some reason) for SoulSeek. Unfortunately, that includes BitTorrent...

I believe there's a program called DC++ that works on the intranet, but I was never able to figure it out.

You'd have to be an idiot to have anything to fear when using a DC-klient. There isn't much that could go wrong when downloading an AMV with a DC-klient, and if something did go wrong it would not harm your computer, unless you're an idiot. :P

Someone set up an AMV DC room a year or two ago, I did kinda okay the first 3 days...but it never really got much traffic afterwards and I think it was canned/abandoned.

DC++, eh? Man, that's one of the most popular file sharing program in our school. Heck, a few people in the anime club is trying to "persuade" me to use it, but I keep telling them I have no idea how the hell to set it up nor even care about it.

As with anything, I guess the usefulness of it for AMV's depends on personal situation, bandwith, etc.

The whole 'plan-never-took-off' thing reminds me of BitTorrent - I've been hearing all sorts of grandiose plans for people setting up an AMV BT tracker/distro, but that never took off the ground, although several MEP's have used BT successfully for distribution.

Yo, well I'm the owner of the hub and it's on a 10/10mbit line; I just have to say that the main reason that these hubs often go down in the beginning is because people often have such a negative attitude against changes and new things.

Another thing that's good with DC is that you can chat about your ideas more open and get faster responses, and be able to get some amvs that are not uploaded here.

Another "dream" I have is to buy more HD's to the server and load all of Golden Nut's amvs to the server so that people may download them from there to.
