biased
ok... i have to be completely honest that my opinion on this upcoming live action initial d is completely biased. mainly because jay chou, who happens to be my favorite chinese/taiwanese singer, is playing as takumi and edison chen, who is one of my fav cantonese actors, is gonna be ryosuke. nevertheless, i dun think that its going to be that bad even if they werent in the cast

Well Initial D is one of my favorite anime. I love Initial D. I can't get enough of the Trueno AE86 on the downhill so I am in high anticipation of this movie just to see the cars in action. I hope this live action movie is an honest rendition of the Gunma street racing world. I am highly doubtful however that the drift technique of the stunt drivers will come anywhere near that of Fujiwara Takumi, Takahashi Ryosuke, or any of the Gunma downhill specialists--

never know, for the driving scenes, they may turn to CG effects, i don't know if the stunt drivers would be able to get as close to the railings as Takumi does
or they could just do some trick like film a drift techinique and then use CG to make the railing closer than it really was
no doubt i'm seeing this when it's available, i'll probably buy it before i see it just to have the collection

INITIAL D
Downhill racing is completely diferent from racing on an open straight-away. On the downhill you actually need skill beyond pressing your foot on the gas pedal and having a powerful engine.Brolly345 wrote:Want live action Initial D? Watch The Fast and the Furious.
Drifting down the narrow mountain pass road at incredible speed, centimeters form the guardrail...whew...goosebumps

I don't know...Hong Kong movies are pretty crazy when it comes to stunts....Daio Kaji wrote:never know, for the driving scenes, they may turn to CG effects, i don't know if the stunt drivers would be able to get as close to the railings as Takumi does

I have a R2 Dvd of Thunderbolt (This movies was never sold in the U.S., funny, becuase the disc has an english dub...). The movie is about a guy who used to race, but now works in his family's car chop. However, an international criminal who has a penchant for racing all things fast and has the name of Cougar (hmmm...) makes thing difficult for the lead character, especially after he bests Cougar in a race. And Cougar hates losing. What will the main cahracter do to win agaisnt a man who will cheat and even torture his opponents family to win?
Who plays the lead character you ask? Why, none other than Jackie Chan himself!
About a good 30, 40 minutes into the movies there's an awesome car duel between Jackie Chan's character and Cougar. Cougar is driving an R32 Skyline GTR and Jackie is driving a Mitsubishi FTO (did anyone else notice that he always drives Mitsubishis?)
The chase is freaking AWESOME. It was done back in 1995 and there is no CG or cables, just awesome car crunching stunt driving mayhem. And boy, do they trash those cars.
So, If the live action Initial D is like that, then I'll watch. Hong Kong action flicks seem to have few stunt restrictions compared to the U.S. so budgets may be lower, but stunts are crazier. Oh, and they also aren't worried about scratching the paint. (Unlike some certain movie that used CG for its race scenes *cough* Fast and Furious series *cough*)
