ever been accused of stealing footage?
just wondering because if you get permission for the footage and someone else says you stole it is really upsetting. geez all the stuff is copywrited anyway. i got slammed and they had the nerve to post comments on my personal web page. how do they not know if a friend gave you footage or you got it from your own dvd? why should people care anyway? its all for fun and most dont have large fast computers. why dont people chill out. geez we arent getting paid for this, its a fun hobby. is there really anything wrong with using other footage? i personaly dont think so... anyway if you dont have anything nice to say about footage dont post it all over the net, very immature if ya ask me.

You see, when you take footage from an amv, you're almost always taking edits. That's footage changed by the one who made the video you used. The creator can recognize those edits when you throw them into your own video - so he knows you took them from him, and not the dvd. That's not even considering people who have strange aspect ratios or odd watermarks in their compression - that stands out like a sore thumb when someone tries to pass it off as their own.
So it's actually pretty easy to tell if someone used your footage - just look for the edits you spent hours on, or the mistakes you made in ignorance - all of which being tossed together under someone else's name. No comparison to straight dvd footage.
Now, you said you had permission. If someone made the video and told you you could use it, that person can't turn around and whine that you stole it. All you need to do is flash the email, or whatever 'permission' the person gave to you. It's still not good to reuse footage (it's against the site rules to use downloaded footage), but it's not the same as just ripping videos apart without a care to who actually arranged them that way.
It's not a matter of being "nice" and not saying bad things about footage. If you host someone else's work on this site, you get in trouble. This site has rules you have to follow. When you break those rules, it gives others a license to say mean things to you. If you don't like the rules, find another website.
Sorry if your feelings have been hurt, but this isn't personal. If you take someone's fanart and put your name on it, that person is going to say something about it. Why did you expect any less with edited scenes?

i understasnd that. but this person is accusing me of stealing footage i got off the internet. anyway i edited all my footage, speeding up parts and other things, no watermarks ect. i just feel they had no business going on my guest book (personal web page) and slamming me more than once. i e-mailed them, but i think it was rude, they even said they turned me in. anyway., this is my FUN hobby and if they want to take away my enjoyment, eh so be it. let them prove i stole anything as they have yet to tell me what footage. or reply to my e-mail. when i first came here most of the videos are other people footage. about 80% so why should people really care anyway. geez i find something i like to do and someones gotta go mess it up. oh well i will wait and see what happens as she said she reported me without getting any facts.

You have to realize there are a *lot* of videos on this site. Some of the locally hosted videos don't even have anime in them - that doesn't mean they're allowed here. It takes time and help to enforce rules about video content, so people have to report videos in order for the problems to stop. Yes, there are hundreds of frankenstein vids on this site. That doesn't mean they aren't breaking the rules. The old "they're doing it why can't I" doesn't work. If it did, we wouldn't bother with rules at all.
I think I understand - you got the video somewhere else so you think that means she doesn't have any ownership of it. That's not the way it works. She can put her vids on kazaa - they're still her videos that she edited, using footage that she ripped off her dvds. You can buy a cd of her vids off ebay - they're still her videos.
If you were careful not to reproduce her edits, and you didn't use the exact order she had the scenes in her video, then it will be evident in your vid. Sit back and don't worry about it - the proof is in comparing the two videos. If you want to know why she's accusing you, give me links to the videos in question.
All I have to do is import both into windows movie maker and you can tell in an instant - 10 seconds - if you used her scenes or not. They'll line up. If you didn't use her scenes, then they won't line up. Simple and consistent. There's no point arguing when you can prove your innocence just by giving links and letting a third party compare the evidence.
But we both know you used her scenes since you said you did - you downloaded her video, chopped it up, and uploaded the remix here. I guess the only question now is why you're so confused. Do you not take any pride in your hobby? If I were to take your pretty profile picture - that you drew - and put a christmas hat on it and call it mine, wouldn't you be a little unhappy about it? I think you would. That's why you asked people not to steal it - because you made it.

I never said i dled her video or chopped it. you want the link its on my site and hers is under amazonmandy. my video is nothing like hers i looked at hers and our are different, i got more footage than she does and my scenes are edited with speed ups. just compare them so i can go on with my now boring life. But we both know you used her scenes since you said you did - you downloaded her video, chopped it up, and uploaded the remix here. and i'm not mad, just frustrated with how she handled this. i mean leave my person web page alone, she could pm me privately. well whatever happens it was fun making the videos. no one can take that joy away. well i guess amv can. but at this point i know i did nothing wrong. the two videos side by side prove it.
