when i found out bout amv's i almost imediatly wanted to make my own, so i just used footage from amvs i found on limewire. but i had the sence not to show them to anybody. but exept for a few exeptions that used special effects i couldnt use (was working with wmm) i dont think i ever really used the stuff for the edits. i really tried to go for the images themselves, wich was alot harder cuz i didnt have a whole latta choice in how long i wanted to play an image. i was confined to however long the origional editor used his stuff.
still, its a great way to learn.

Well, killerkitty pretty much admitted she used downloaded footage. There is some contention as to whether she was aware of whose footage she used, how much was used (effects and all) and if they gave her their blessing or not.requiett wrote:Yeah. Once. Someone said I used downloaded footage in one of my vids. Pissed me off something fierce.
Also, I'd like to see these e-mails that were being received if you were really being harrassed.

I myself have never been accused of using other peoples footage, simply because i never did that. Every video i made was with DVD footage, even the early ones. I joined over at MTT in the beginning, and when i started asking questions about making AMVs there they immediatly pointed me towards the Read ErMaC & AbsoluteDestiny's Friendly AMV Guides! and i got started. Well, i had to overcome some problems at first (dutch dvds suck, they use the worst interlacing ever invented) but still never used downloaded footage or from other peoples AMVs, and damn proud of it. Still i do use videos for inspiration, when i'm creating videos i watch what other people have made with the same series/film and/or with the same song, but i never copy or steal from them.

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
We take a copyrighted work, decipher the dvd, chop up the scenes, add in effects, set it off to someone else’s copyrighted music, and call it our own...
I don’t think that I’m in any danger of anyone “stealing” my stuff. But if they ever did I would be honored not angry.

Pray 4 peace! Not an AMV, something you can do to help!

killerkitty's video in question has been removed from the local server for blatant scene-for-scene copying of large tracts of AmazonMandy's video with the effects included (effects which are not possible in Windows Movie Maker).
Although different people react differently to footage from their videos being used, any real video editor should be cognizant of the amount of effort it takes to at least select the scenes and ordering and placement of the clips they use and not criticize other people for taking it more seriously than they do.
I dunno, maybe it's just me, but I have a hard time calling someone a video "editor" when they plop more than a minute's worth of footage into their video seemingly unedited from their original source.
