Some of us are cheap/poor or have the choice: DVDs or good (or at least not free) editing program. Therefore some of us choose DVDs.
Then find a contest that allows WMVs.
bubblehead wrote:Besides, how are you going to know unless someone tells you or it's a .wmv?
The ".wmv" extension might be a subtle hint.
"If someone feels the need to 'express' himself or herself with a huge graphical 'singature' that has nothing to do with anything, that person should reevaluate his or her reasons for needing said form of expression, possibly with the help of a licensed mental health practitioner."

I think the point was that there are other ways of exporting from WMM that can be followed by compression to distro AVI or MPEG and still retain good quality, hence "<b>unless</b> someone tells you <b>or it's a .wmv</b>".

That is SO uncool.
I was wondering when someone would bring this issue up. But let me tell you, it's not uncool... There is a perfectly good reason for it. Which I will state below underneath the second quote.
bubblehead wrote: Some people who use Windows Movie Maker are very good... of course you realize this, or you would not feel obligated to make such a rule.
Laughs! This is funny! Off course that is not the reason why whe choose to set such a rule. We are aiming for high quality videos in this contest. Hell, we from Gridline Studios don't even participate in this contest :P

It is true there are some good .wmv videos, HOWEVER, nowadays most people with actually no experience in video editing just grab some footage, put it in windows movie maker export it and then upload it to teh org, which is not a good thing. Most .wmv videos are still crap! Therefore we chooce not to allow videos made with windows movie maker assuring we keep the quality high in the contest.

So a Premiere edited video is good as a standard? NO! Therefore we select the videos that are entered and only the high quality ones will make it to the contest.

So let's make a deal for the .wmv ppl out there? Feel you have a good .wmv video like this one: http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members ... hp?v=43208. Submit it. Otherwise don't try!

We assumed that when ppl read no videos made with windows movie maker, they stop reading....

I've seen some pretty amazing things come out of WMM.
Same goes for fansubs. There is absolutely nothing wrong with videos that use fansubs as footage, unless you leave the subs in. If you do that, your just not verry bright

Just look at this "fansub" video! No subs and still ace!

But the same can be said of WMV files, which is all I'm saying. Yes, there are good fansub videos out there. But yes, there are good WMV videos out there. I mean obviously you run the contest how you see fit, but instead of just axing WMV entries altogether, if you get ones that are indeed no good, then just cut them from the contest.

No, I WAS joking... but that's because presumably if a video REALLY sucks, then it won't get very far, right? Usually?

So I was saying, oh, you're worried it would win. Trying to be sarcastic, and biting, and stuff... because I was upset, and may still be a bit.

A lesson folks: frequently what I say (or write) is not meant to be taken literally.

Oh, and it would kinda be bad form for someone to participate in their own contest anyway... whether or not they think their video is good enough to win... so it's good you don't.

Anyways... carry on, all.

ROFL at this contest. WMV should be allowed. I have some of my own vids made in WMM and the quality owns hepas Ive seen that were made in Adobe. Because I used a DVD ripper to get all my clips mine is perfect quality. so if you are set on completely cutting WMV clips from your competition expect less entries than other contests get.

I felt I should point out that DB seems to have gone back on the <I>complete</i> exclusion of .WMV videos, since people seem not to have noticed...

All the same...that still says a bit about the type of wmv he is looking for. None of my vids look like that.

Not all of us photoshop our vids frame by frame (at least not to this extreme). I don't think my work is bad, but it still has that simplistic look to it.

But it really doesn't matter anyway since I hardly ever enter contests. :P

I don't know about you guys, but I'm not particularly interested in joining a studio that uses format/program as judgement. Koop managed Euphoria with MSpaint and Magix. Don't judge an editor by their program :!:
