Kino's Journy

Post by bum » Wed Nov 24, 2004 9:16 pm

Finished watching this yesterday. Im surprised at how much of the philosophy and deeper meaning of this anime seems to fit more around western culture and history, rather than an asian side. Oh and Its good, damn good. Esspecialy if you lenjoy anime whihc makes you think about the significance and meaning of whats happening on screen, and how it all relates to reality. (lain, boogiepop, etc).

It is a very good series, although at times I felt like some points were being underlined not too subtly. It didn't bother me that much. I heard there's a movie/OVA or somesuch in the works too.

All depends on the episode, Janzki. Sometimes the main point did seem to be beaten in with a sledge unnecesssarily but itwas still subtle for a good portion of the time.

How can you go wrong with a talking motorcycle that you can share a hotel room with? I've only seen an episode or two, but it looks really good. What does that motorcycle run on? I was expecting dead people from carbon monoxide poisoning when I saw the motorcycle indoors.

Saw the first DVD at anime boston and said "I will be buying
the rest of this". I think-I bought it for the Live IRON CHEF
match againist Dokool. Ironically bought the rest of the series
friday still waiting on my shipment from Roberts Anime Cornerstore.

It really doesn't appear to run on anything. It has been a while, but I can't remember any gas stations, or refuelings.

Strange. I've looked around but I don't think I've ever seen the dvd for it in stores.

The whole series has bein released on dvd in america. I had to get it downloaded because I cant even find an australian release date for the first dvd yet. Ah il buy the dvd's when they're out here.

Anyway about the motorrad. It does use gas (or something). That gets mentioned on one of the later eppisodes, when the motorrad is running out of gas and complaining about it. Its not realy central to the plot what it runs on anyway, its a talking motorcicle, thats all :P. Oh and, the motorrad should be thought of as kino's companion. Most people in the series react to it normaly when it speaks, as if it was human.

One thing that confuses me is kino's gender. He looks and talks like a guy, but he's occasionaly refered to as a she.

There's an episode that explains that. Kino is definately a she, though.

I find that it didn't ever really matter what gender she was. Would it have really changed many of the episodes if she was a he? Yes, the colleseum episode would have slightly different dialogue, but it wouldn't be that important.
