What do I think makes an AMV bad?
Well...
1. Repeated scenes
2. Bad footage quality
3. Bad sound quality
4. Excessively long scenes (5 seconds plus)
5. Lack of concept
6. Lack of flow
7. Lack of a disertainable story
8. Bad syncing (lyrical, action, mood, ect.)
Those are the only things I can think of that make me not even be able to finish the video.
There are also of things that are conditional.
1.
Flashes of any color. These depend on whether or not they are well executed. They need to be on some kind of beat. Not just flashing to flash.
2.
Effects. These have to have a point, or not be too excessive. Even if these effects all have a point and even fit well I won't really like it if that is all it is, or if there are way too many. If the video is just effects with no story or is lacking flow behind these effects I do not like it.
3.
Long scenes. I know this was stated above, but this depends on the kind of video. If it is a fast paced song in an AMV I don't want to see scenes longer than 4 seconds, and if the scene is that long they have to have something going on in them. If is is a slower song in an AMV I don't really mind how long the scene is just as long as the entire scene has a point, whether this is to the lyrics or beats.
4.
Short scenes. This also depends on the kind of video it is, and/or how well the scene fits with the speed of the song.
5.
How well the song is used. This one is kind of hard for me to explain. I don't want to see a video that doesn't use really any of the beats within it, but I don't want to see too many used. Using too many, or using too few is also very conditional. It depends on what kind of song/AMV it is. If the song is really fast and the person uses most or all of the beats in the song it makes the AMV very difficult to watch. This is because it makes it difficult to see what is going on. Using a good majority of the beats is good for a fast song, not all of them. Same way with a slower song/AMV. A good majority of the beats need to be used. It is even more crucial in a slower song/AMV because there are a lot less beats to use. If the person doesn't use enough beats it makes it boring and difficult to watch.
6.
What kind of video/song it is. Again very conditional. I'm not going to watch the kinds of videos I do not like, or videos to songs I do not like. That wouldn't make sense. What I tend to not like are: Romance videos, Dance type music videos, (Done to very upbeat songs like DDR or Pop music.) and Effects videos. I do like most other types though. Examples: Action, Horror, Drama, and AMVs done to most kinds of rock/metal.
That is all I can think of along the lines of not liking an AMV, or what makes it "bad" for me.
