Yep, agreed on the above ones, though I've only heard limited amounts of most of them (besides Genesis).
Although if Power Metal is what you were thinking, most of those bands we mentioned (besides perhaps certain eras of King Crimson) you might find a little too light-footed.

The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

I havent listened in awhile but since i saw botes vid with blind guardian, which reminded me of iced earth, i started up again.
So...anyone got suggestions?
only suggest the things that not everybody knows of cuz chances are, ive heard them before, after all i happen to fit into the category of 'everybody' =)
Caravan
Camel
Renaissance
Genesis esp. their Peter Gabriel period
Barclay James Harvest
Marillion is from a later period, but is worth checking out if you like it dark and lyrical and with an Eighties guitar-rock style. I like to compare them to Genesis, except that their stories are more down to earth than the fantasy tales that Banks and Rutherford put together. I prefer Marillion's Hogarth period, but the earlier works with Fish include classic songs like "Kayleigh" and "Warm Wet Circles".
Dont forget "Sugar Mice In the Rain"!!! I think I love you...lol.
