Die. Right now. I'm serious.
mmmmm? what are you implying?

(yeah took me a while to respond but... you know things come up)
Video's can't be bad if they have lots of effects. If you don't like them, that means you suck.
STFU! Your IQ is getting lower with every post you make.

Apparently, your vids can be bad without people ever seeing them. They're automatically bad, because you talk like an asshole to them: Self-evident case-in-point. Heh. I love how people equate asshole with SUCK. How many newbs are friendly because they want you to watch their vids? It's pretty hyprcritical to say "editing isn't a competition" when one looks at the board and would give an arm just to see the self-said name up there. Besides, it's hard to compete in a game where Naruto + popular rock + decent editing = OMFG INSTANT CLASSIC. I remind you, I'm not complaining about the system. It works... to a degree. I point out to you the fact there are uppity assholes who sneer and look down upon those DO like to compete, and then do the same thing they were just bashing, but in a different light. It's popularity contest, whether you want to do admit it to yourself or not. For those who say they only make vids for themselves or for the fun of it... it's like intellectual masturbation. Keep in mind that sex is always better with someone else.

And I'm a vigorous video-masturbator

Even though your tone is negative that is 100% true. My goal: to be the best. Never did I do this for fun, it was always to beat others and win competitions. For me AMV's are serious business. Period.

I feel sorry for you. Winning competitions and getting recognition is nice and all, but that sentence sounds very wrong to me.

x2

I will say the reverse:

Never did I do this for competition, it was always to have fun and beat my own creative challenge.

Motivation is subjective (do I even need to say that?). I may not dislike competitive videos, but I would much, much rather like to see more videos done without any incentive other than personal creative motivation.

It's not a popularity contest, not for me. If I was here to get cheap attention... welll... I wouldn't be here. There are plenty of other ways for me to get low-quality attracted interest. And if I wanted popularity in AMV's, I wouldn't consciously use music and editing approaches that I know a good portion of people will simply not like.

It may not be a full on contest, but getting three 2's in a row still feels like losing to me. It just feels good. I don't make AMV's for the fun of editing and self-expression alone, I like making people happy. Conversely, I don't much care for making people unhappy.

Sorry? Wrong? Quit trying to sound like a voice of reason. Not everyone has a way of thought similar to you. You have your own ideas, I have my own. Can't understand why I think so? Fine. But don't come across like you know everything about anything.

Things I do for fun: play basketball, hang out with friends, read. Things I do seriously: editing, training. I started getting payed for editing and it's not a fuckin hobby anymore. It's pretty serious business and I started looking at AMV-ing in the same way. I like editing, and even more watching my own finished product, but I don't consider it "fun". The only time I had "fun" is when I made Vegeta lip-sync "Can't touch this", but that was a laugh. The process of doing it wasn't funny though. Doing good editing, good timing, good effects, everything that is technical, is a very painful process. You call nights and days spent on only 1 sec. fun? I call that a freakin ordeal. Add the type of video that is "angst" on top of that and voila: a shatered body+a dieing brain=urge to kill. Or maybe I'm just filtering out what's left of the agony that the last video had given me :O. That pretty much won't make any sence to people who have never put "real" effort in a video.
