Key the Metal Idol

Post by DTJB » Fri Dec 10, 2004 5:53 pm

I finished watching this series about a week ago. All I can say is, amazing. A very incredible series from top to bottom. Many of the characters are very realistic, the plot is well thought out and the ending was really something. Okay so maybe everything wasn't PICTURE perfect, they could have made Prince Snake-Eyes' motives a little clearer at the beginning of the series, and the plot points in episode 14 could have been revealed a little sooner instead of taking 30 straight minutes of a 90 minute episode to talk about them. Aside from these things, it's still a great series.

For those who have never heard of this series, here is the plot in a nutshell. In a small mountain town, Tokiko "Key" Mima is sent home from school after being told that her "grandfather" had been killed. Key's "grandfather", Murao Mima is actually her creator, and in his last words, Key learns how to become human, by gaining the love of 30,000 friends. Key travels to Tokyo in hopes of accomplishing this goal and meets up with her oldest friend, Sakura Kuriyagawa, who decides to help her out. In the middle of all of this, Jinsaku Ajo, the head of a mechanical manufacturing corporation, as developed a new prototype of androids for use in military warfare. The androids still have some flaws in them, so Ajo decides to test them in a very peculiar way. One of his androids has been modeled after pop idol, Miho Utsuse and has been performing in live concerts with Miho at the controls. After witnessing Miho's work in person, Key decides to become an idol herself to make her 30,000 friends.

Before you write this off as yet ANOTHER android girl series that follows the same tired formula found in almost every other android girl series, this is nothing like those other shows. This one is dark, bloody and even very compelling. There are a couple mysteries woven in the plot and a lot of surprises too. I really recommend it to Evangelion and Lain fans. Totally worth checking out.
Probably too busy to be here right now.

/me is one of Key's 30,000 friends.

And so should everyone.

Yeah, it does kind of drag on and not explain anything and then explain everything all at once...but hey, complainers. At least it DOES explain stuff, not like some other shows out there (*cough*Eva fanboys*cough*).

Highly recommended and seconded.
Life's short.

I enjoyed the series, but I wasn't really satisfied with the last episode. I mean, the series makes no sense for a long time, and then in the second-to-last episode they explain everything, and it all makes sense. So then it looks like the last episode is going to wrap everything up, but instead, the last episode goes totally random and makes no sense whatsoever :P

I also didn't like how one of the main characters is killed very suddenly without any warning, and without any real reason. No spoiler there, because I'm not saying which character it is :P
I have no idea how to use this new forum.

It's kinda like one of those shows where you have to fill in the blanks all by yourself. Most creators from Japan have a habit of doing that.

Yeah that was a very surprising part of the series, but I think it fit very well with the series. About a dozen other characters died in the series, that particular character's death brought the most impact because that character had a large impact on the plot. As far as why

I might have missed that, I'll check on the second viewing.
