Well they did announce the winners of the AMV contest about an hour after the costume contest (the convention ran way late). I don't remember the name of the "Best in Show" winner but they did announce it and he was not there (no wonder as this was about 28 hours late in telling us who won).
Oh and another thing about the AMV contest, not only am I sure that they missed/lost peoples amv's because they lost one of my entries (it just dissapeared??) but they also played a corrupted copy (I don't know what happed to it, all my transitions got reversed and whole scenes were cut out of my vid) of another one of my AMV's! I also was told that this copy was the one that was judged as well!
They certainly went all out on the prizes for the other catagories, which were very short in list: Best Tech, Best Action, Misc, Best Comedy and Best Drama (which I can tell you who won that one by the way - ME!! the only other one I entered that didn't get lost or screwed somehow) I was given a T-shirt (that cost 5$ at the con) and disk #2 and 3 of Last Exile DVD's. The winner of the "Gaming Tourn" for Halo won the complete Box set of MACROSS along with a few Xbox games (that come free with the system when you purchase it) I was told by the winners of that contest. We also had to wait about an hour after the closing ceremony to get our prizes (this was about 10pm Sunday).
I REALLY hope they get it together for the next one (where ever it is) becasue this con really had potential and a lot of things went really BAD for them.
**wonders what would have happed if my OTHER 2 AMVs would have been judged??? ***

Congrats, but there's no chance of remembering the other winners, or the videos, or anything about the videos, or anything, is there?Kazutaka wrote:They certainly went all out on the prizes for the other catagories, which were very short in list: Best Tech, Best Action, Misc, Best Comedy and Best Drama (which I can tell you who won that one by the way - ME!!

Ok I will try to give as much detail as possible. I don't remember the names of the winners, but the Best in Show video was a high energy (eye candy) fast paced Metropolis vid set to an industrial/rave type song w/no lyrics. **BTW - who ever made that video - it was VERY NICE!! Really well made and perfect timing to the music great editing job.
The video that won best TECH was from Rahxephon and was full of really good special FX.
Best Action was a Naruto (spelling?) video (I believe, I have never seen this anime but I think it was Naruto).
I think the video that won best Comedy was a movie trailer spin off with the voice of Arnold Schwarzenegger and various others (not sure what anime was used in this one either as the bumper was about 2 sec long before they cut it off). This one WAS VERY funny indeed.
It was very difficult to hear as they had massive problems with thier sound system durning the contest (either one channel was out or there was feedback or you could not understand what the hell they were saying half the time). Also many videos (mine included) did not have bumpers showing the name of the anime, creator, studio, song or anything else.
I have tried to post on the forum for Otaku Con, but they removed the Miami thread (2 days after the convention, I suspect due to the LARGE number of negative feedback that they were getting) they have not answered me yet and they have not updated the website either.

Are you serious on the comedy video? Would it happen to have been called "Little Tortilla Boy", which can be found in my sig, and was set to Great Techer Onizuka?
In the Miami Kunicon forum, we started to get a bit of information, and he said the best comedy video was "Real Otaku Heroes", however he admits he was just trying to remember these from off the top of his head.

Thanks for the info

I swear that I thought "Little Tortilla Boy" (Movie trailer with the Arnold voice overs) won best comedy... or something because I remember them playing that video in the "winners block" with all the other winning videos. I have been told that they will post the OFFICIAL winners as soon as a list is provided. I would check that list out, because based on how the contest itself was handled.... (the loss of vids, corrupted files, missing bumpers etc) I do not have a lot of faith in them getting things right. However the buzz on the Otaku site is that these are the winners (that the announcer remembers, that is) so far....
Advance Wars 3 Prime for Best Misc
Real Otaku Heros for Best Comedy
You Wanted More for Best Drama
Rahxephon (not sure of title) Best TECH
And the best of show winner was: Jose Zamora for Metropolis Objection.
BTW: greenjinjo that video was AWESOME!!! That was really good, by far one of the best that I saw at the con!!

Yeah, I guess we'll just have to wait for the official list as soon as the AMV contest coordinator is found. I don't know for sure but I don't think anyone has heard from him since the contest
