I don't know why it's called a radio button, despite working with them in several toolkits both in school and in industry. People who make up names for interface elements are just weird.

Maybe it's because you can only select one element per group, like you can only tune to one frequency on a radio?
I remember reading an explanation for this somewhere...

its because on old-school radios, you could only have one button pressed at a time. whenever you pressed a button, the button that was previously pressed would pop back up.

In short, the name sticks around for hysterical reason.
