is it just me or when a cat (thats not a main caricter) appers in a semi-serous anime (like trigun) it meens the the sitichuation is not to be tackin serously?

that is a good question but i have only noticed that cat in trigun

wat other animes has the cat been in

Back on topic...

I have noticed cats in a few anime, but Trigun was the biggest one (go Kuroneko-sama!), and the mood has been a little lighter than the rest of the series (those of you who have seen Trigun know what I'm talking about, sorta). Otherwise, I'm not 100% certain of the symbolism (if any) of the cat...

That's just me though

The cat scenes in Azumanga Daioh are never serious. But then, the rest of the series isn't serious either, so take that as you will.

It's not just cats. Cats and other animals are usually used in anime as a form of comic relief. The reason for this is because Nihonjin love small animals and we find them very cute. We just use cats very often because we don't see them as ever being dangerous, dogs and other animals on the other hand are percieved as being more commonly dangerous than cats.

Also, for an example of a dog as comic relief, check Akamaru in Naruto
