Fullmetal Alchemist Movie?

Post by Yukina_Raven » Sat Dec 25, 2004 9:27 pm

Sorry if this has been done recently, but I haven't been here in ages and I decided to make a topic about it with my not-so-glorious return. :P

Anyway, I heard a rumor on a website about a FMA movie coming out in the summer of 2005. Just wondering if anyone has heard anything about this as well and/or if its true. For some reason I'm under the impression that FMA is one of the newer anime in Japan (as well as America, apparently).

Oh yeah, and Happy Holidays! :P

It's true that there is an FMA movie in the works. Been ages since I've seen the official site though. Pretty much nothing has been released except a picture of an older Ed. Basically all the info out so far is related to the site so it's kinda iffy at this point.

If the movie does come about, I'm definity planning on watching it. The tv series stopped at a odd place. It was a good ending in a way but at the same time left me feeling unfulfilled. The only plus was hearing Ed say Einstein was untrustworthy, which I found to be quite comical.

Well, first, I can confirm this: The FMA movie will be released in Japan in August 2005.

Second, Yukina: The series is... well, pretty new. It ended in Japan about 3 months ago (I'm studying in Tokyo right now so I got to catch the end), started airing on Cartoon Network about 2 months ago, and starts coming out on R1 DVD in February. It's one of those shows that became wildly popular in both Japan and the US at the same time. Viva fansubs!

Oh, and one more thing: Funimation has the rights to the movie in addition to the TV series, so the movie *will* get an American release.

Whoo-hoo! Thanks for the info!

I knew it was knew to the US, but I wasn't sure if it was so new to Japan. (Hell yeah, Viva fansubs! They got be hooked on this series! :D ) Anyway, I'll eagerly keep an eye open for the movie! But I guess there won't be a funsub of it if Funimation owns it, yes?

Random note: I'm jealous that dokool is in Tokyo.

ANBU/AKeep fansubbed everything up to episode 31, which is when Funimation announced the licence. The people who were working on that project regrouped under Spoon, which is to say 'they didn't stop fansubbing it but just did it under a different name to keep ANBU/AKeep from being sued into oblivion'. However, they were taking too long, so another group (Sonchou-SHS) did speedsubs for the last... 15 or so eps of the series.

So, basically, the entire series ended up fansubbed, but naturally it's hard to find since any anime torrent site worth a damn has de-listed FMA.

Also, in the future, if you have a question about so-and-so anime being licenced, check out www.animenewsnetwork.com. It's amazing how many General Anime threads wouldn't need to be created if more people knew about that site...

Oh, and yes, Tokyo rocks =P

Ah-ha. So that explains my fansub collection. (For the record, my friend gave the collection to me. ^^; ) Thanks for the site! It'll stop my littering of the General Anime thread, then, yes? :P ...And this one, I suppose. ^^;

I'll get to Tokyo one day, just you wait. :P

Save lots of money and try to study the language beforehand. Best two pieces of advice I can give you.

Something interesting about FMA, at least IMHO, is that the North American R1 DVD release is actually going to match the Japanese R2 DVD release in terms of volume count, 13 discs each. So far I've actually only seen one other anime released here in the same way, and that's Azumanga Daioh.

Hopefully that'll become a trend. アニメのDVDはとてもたかいですよ。。。

Gotta say I agree 100%. The ending... Oi, that was a cruel ending indeed. Seriously, I was in tears and I'm still not sure why. ^^; Although for me, the ending was fulling for me. The entire anime was excatly the kind of thing you'd expect from SquareEnix, what with the gasp-enducing plot twists and soap opra type drama. (Fullmetal Alchemist was a game and then was turned in an anime, I think.)

Dokool: Interesting indeed. I really want the DVDs, but I'll probably just wait for the box set to come out someday. :P

Sorry for the double post, but I just found this.
During the Fullmetal Alchemist Festival: Tales of Another (more...), the trailer for the upcoming Fullmetal Alchemist movie: Conqueror of Shambala was shown, followed by a short question and answer session with a couple of the production crew. This trailer hasn't been put up on the official movie site yet, but I suppose it will be soon.

The trailer:
Starts off in a factory-sort of place where a block of concrete / rock / metal is transmuted from a part of a pipe and dropped down below. It falls just before a mysterious figure who was doing something to what looked like Al's armor body from the anime series. Then we see the figure wearing a mask of some sort (somehow I am reminded of a cliche character type unique to the Gundam series at this point). Al (in his armor body form) turns and next is a short clip of Ed (with his automail right arm, wearing his usual red coat) running and shouting, "This is OUR world!". I don't remember the rest of the trailer at the moment.

Above is an extract of the Fullmetal Alchemist Festival: Tales of Another official pamphlet sold today. It mentions something about the movie based mostly on a man-made castle floating in the sea, and a new masked character (we still don't know if he's ally or enemy).
