Excel Saga no ones finished it... I think?

Post by kingmob_867 » Sun Jan 02, 2005 1:38 pm

Has any one actually finished the Excel Saga series? I'm serious because every AMV I've seen has the same clips from either Intro or the first couple of eps or the last few eps. There's maybe one Excel saga AMV that has stuff from the middle eps. I'm posting this because my brother saw the whole series and he thought it was biggest waste of time EVER! As far as nonsense animes go it could have at least been funny or somewhat coherent. So what say you, did you finish it and did you feel like wasted time that could have been spent doing something constructive?

Heresy. Episodes 17-25 of Excel Saga are a masterpiece, just in how they turned it around from the crazy off-the-wall comedy into a serious series (well, kinda serious). Then you had Ep 26 which was just in a league of its own and crazy enough to inspire Puni Puni Poemy.

The problem is that Excel Saga is for the most part jokes involving the Japanese language and culture (You'll understand if you watch the show with the ADVidNotes turned on), in addition to a huge parody of all the anime genres/styles it mocks. If you don't understand that, then you won't get the show, which is a shame b/c it just kicks ass.

Sorry it's just that I can never get past the second episode and all the AMV's I've seen seem to suggest the same. And for the record I do know a few thing s about the Japanese culture and their brand of humor. It’s not that I don't "get it" but rather that the series is just to chaotic.

Agreed, and even with the VidNotes on it can be a bit confusing, as sometimes the cultural references fly by so quickly that they fill up the screen. I still love the show, though.

Oh man I was expecting a more angry response, not that I'm trying to flame or anything. I just figured that the hardcore fans would be coming out and asking for my head. 8-)

"I've seen the entire series through multiple times, and i am also planning on making a few Excel Saga videos, and they will certainly have footage from the later epsides, actually they will have a lot of that, they are just plain great, and i might also include some of the last episode, just for fun.

I don't really think Excel Saga has a "hardcore fan"-base, or at least if it does it isn't nearly as big as the more-often discussed shows (Inu Yasha, Naruto, DBZ, etc), for exactly the reasons you mentioned. It's a tough show to get through if you don't have a bit of a high (and low)-brow sense of humor, and if you don't appriciate the references or the puns then you won't get it.

I mean, I've only seen maybe 1 or 2 Excel Saga cosplayers in my convention life, and both were Menchi. The hardcore don't flock to Excel Saga, the refined do

Your right about one thing Excel saga won't apeal to everyone as it does seam rather caotic at times. I would have to say thou that it takes a hardcore otaku to sit throu the entire series. I've accually went throu and watched the entire series with the ADvid notes on, you have to be ready with the pause button to catch them all.

All in all it's one of the best parody/comady series out there.

I could only get through a couple episodes too. It was humorous, at least the little bit of the conversations I could understand. My old brain doesn't work that fast. My #2 daughter has watched the whole thing and thinks it's great. She can understand every word, but then she talks that fast most of the time, unless she has to much caffine then she talks much faster.
Where did you say I'm going?.... And what am I doing in a handbasket?
