I give my star ratings fairly, generally based on this system. However that's not to say that I won't take an amv that's generally average (3) and give it a 4 if I really liked the concept or what they managed to accomplish with it. That's probably why my average star rating is 3.44. Generally everyone has different ways of approaching the system.

5 = Spectacular 28
4 = Great 103
3 = Good 119
2 = Ok 25
1 = Suck 5

I just wish that seeing "My Downloads" wouldn't be hampered by empty star ratings. Sometimes I want to quickly recommend a link without having to sit there, find the amv in question, watch it and give it a rating just to see what I've previously downloaded. :?

I tend to rate in the 3 or 4 range, but I know that some creators just give 1's if they haven't watched it yet.

Do you take into consideration how good/bad the video is, and whether or not it's a well-compressed realmedia file? Or do you just give 1s to every vid in that format?

Never score based entirely on the format. You can see before you download (hover your mouse over the 'local' button) what format a video is in. If you don't like real media, don't download it. That's as bad as giving ones to xvid amvs just because they aren't mpgs (you *must* download either the xvid codec, or ffdshow to watch xvid amvs in Windows Media Player, so they're just as 'limited' as rm vids are).

The format shouldn't matter unless the capture quality gets nasty (meaning it's poorly compressed) or the playback is screwy (something wrong with the person's encoder).

Ugh...

Ok first I wanna say that the point of this forum is that some people don't give fair star ratings. Like giving a 3 to every video to just get it over with. Sometimes I can understand if you download ten at a time and cant remember but sometimes it just gets crazy.

Second I can't view real media files. Also it is in the rules of the site to getting your video localy availible to use a more universal format. If I can't view it I can't judge it fairly thus giving it a 1.

I only use a mpeg or an avi format for my videos because quicktime will play it, wmp will play it, and creative's player will play it. Also almost any other player will play it.

I know it can be considered unfair to those who use .rm formats. The way I feel about it, it is unfair to donators who keep the server going for these people to disobey the rules like that. If you want to post .rm formats or something like that host off site.

Keep in mind this is about unfair star ratings for very good amv's that deseve a higher than 3 average star score, and are in proper format.

Excuse me but where does it say in the rules that people cannot upload real media?

It doesn't.

Just because you refuse to download the Real player to watch the video does NOT mean that you have the right to give people a 1.

Uploading .RM files locally is disobeying the rules? This is news to me. :?
