What was the No. year for anime?

I think the year 2000 was the best year for anime because major anime for the kids came out such as DBZ, and pokemon.
2001 wasn't such a bad year either.
Please post why you like a certain year.

I believe those titles date much farther back. I recall seeing Pokemon on American TV as far back as 1998-99, and DBZ ran from the later 80's...

I think it depends on when you were born.

If you are a child of the 70s. You might say 1978 with G-Force, Starblazers, and Speed Racer.

If you are a child of the 80's, you might say 1985 with Voltron and Robotech pulling in a new generation.

If you are a child of the 90's, you might say 1994 with Sailor Moon and the anime movies sunday mornings on the sci-fi channel.

It depends on when you were born and where your nostalgia takes you. If you are serious about your anime, bad kiddyfied dubs, heavily edited stories, and americanized names will get your blood boiling.

I loved the original Macross saga of Robotech. I with the exception of the Minmei songs, I think the music for Robotech was better than the original Macross music. But the original script and uncut scenes are much superior than Robotech version. I wonder how I will feel when I do see Voltron and Space Battleship Yamato (Starblazers) in the original language.

But neather one got popular untill one year later. thats when all of the merchendice came out. therefor, became a big fad with the kids.

Don't equate a lot of merchandise with a good year. The number of Big Lots and Dollar Stores filled with merchandise from sure thing entertainment properties are legion.

What has happened is that companies that used to strictly distribute anime in the United States have taken on selling merchandise too. They have picked up on the synergy of having shows on television, periodicals raving about titles, all kinds of toys and goodies available to be purchased, etc, etc. It is a total media blitz. I like Chrono Crusade, Full Metal Panic, and Full Metal Alchemist.... Were they worth the all the noise and expectations they were built up with? No... It just happened to be the hottest things they were pushing at the time.

Hey, Spike bomb 11, I have to agree with Bobbarker31, My intro into anime was Sailor Moon (even tough I wouldn't admit it... ) (or was it Samurai Pizza Cats?), and by the way, I seem to remember that pokemon game came to the US before the show and started the pokemon fad (everyone though it was "blastooie"?), I also seem to remember digimon was like a Tamagochi toy long before the anime' and remember you said that you're about my age, so you should know this stuff.

My brother made fun of me the other day for having too many anime DVDs. He wanted me to purchase something next that was not anime. Funny thing is I got him into a discussion on Sailor Moon which he used to watch religiously when he was in high school before leaving for classes in the morning. He watched that show enough time to be a walking episode guide for it... mentioning that also kills any converstation about my liking anime too much.

Which goes to a point. No matter how much we look back and groan at something that we watched (or that others watch), if it helped us and them into the anime genre, then it is a good thing!!

I wouldn't mention my watching sailor moon 'cause I was about seven/eight at the time...

But later I would really realize that which is anime and started watching more of it specifically (I remember NEEDING to see Cyber 6)
