Well, when the merchendice came out, that made it apparent to everyone to look and say"why the hell is that kid wearing a yellow rat on his shirt?"or"Are those yellow spikes coming out of that guys head or what?"
The products is what really premotes the show.

Products made more ignorant people aware of the show... Not that I am one to speak. I am an electrical engineer who wore 7 large Picachu stickers on my helmet for several years. He was the electric pokeman and I was the electric....nevermind
.
Some of my favorite shows have next to NO merchandise. They are well regarded because they were well written, animated, acted, and produced. Otherwise why are you spending time watching it?

1986 for me. Watching Lisa Hayes run into the arms of Rick Hunter in that coridor of Alaska Base... The scene went black and white for that moment and it put me over the top. I know it would be cliche today (and even then), but for my investment into the original Macross series, it was the first time I had ever seen anything like that.
Still sends a charge through me when I see it even today.

Indeed, she just sang the same one's over and over and over...bobbarker31 wrote: I with the exception of the Minmei songs.
When she said she was going to sing a new song I got my hopes up, but then she sang the SAME one again!

The original Macross songs are much better in my opinion (and more varied). I guess I do like some of the Robotech songs with the exception of that GOD AWEFUL "Time to be a Star"J-0080 wrote:Indeed, she just sang the same one's over and over and over...bobbarker31 wrote: I with the exception of the Minmei songs.

Back in college, I put that as a wave file on a friends computer to play in an endless loop whenever he turned it on. He hated that song worse than me.

It did come out in '96 originally, I believe.bote wrote: 2000-Escaflowne
Granted, that one is one of the bigger reasons 2000 may well have been one of the better years in anime for me, too.
Though now I'm starting to lean to 2001, and even more so 2002, since that's when I discovered fansubs. On the one hand, that started an irrecoverable decline in my anime 'fanboyishness', on the other hand that introduced me to more good, time-worthy series, than I ever knew before.
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

True, they were the most famous back in '96. I remember all the lawsuits and clashes about kids killing each other for pokemon cradsOtohiko wrote:I believe those titles date much farther back. I recall seeing Pokemon on American TV as far back as 1998-99, and DBZ ran from the later 80's...spike bomb 11 wrote:I think the year 2000 was the best year for anime because major anime for the kids came out such as DBZ, and pokemon.
