Who is tired of dubbed anime?

Post by spike bomb 11 » Sun Jan 16, 2005 10:52 pm

Dubbing in the u.s is bad enough as it is which is really stupid, but I found out that its even worse in other countries. Some shows such as YYH might as well not even be called that in other countries because the dubbing is so bad. Totaly different stories.
But now, lets focus on the u.s. I assume everyone will agree that the dubbing in the u.s is stupid. They dont need to be airing adult anime on adult swim if its going to be dubbed. On comedy central, they have an uncencored, & uncut program that airs once a week. in other words, no voice-overs that covers up bad words. They should do the same for AW. They would rake in alot more viewers if that happened.

Obviously you've never seen what Adult Swim did with FLCL (and/or heard the FLCL dub).

How can you agree that the dub was good when you haven't even heard of the anime?

Not all dubbing is bad. If you want to play it safe and scar your ears (just in case an anime has been poorly dubbed) then stick to subs. No one forces you to listen to the dub.

really??? when do they air it? and what animes do they show? i know that tech tv and adult swim shows anime, but i never knew comedy central did...

On topic- When its airing on tv, adult swim is TV-14, so they cant really dub it exactly...I think they did a good job on trying to stick to the story while changing the words around.

No no no. Sorry. I didn't make myself clear. They show uncut comedy movies, not anime. I think AS should do the same with there adult anime.

It's easy to say that subs would attract more fans when fans = people who are familiar with this form of entertainment. However in the bigger picture I think subs would be a bit of a turnoff.

Japan is not the only source of more mature animation. There are a number of shows animated in the US that target the adult audience. So it is possible to prefer animated shows over live action. Not every person who watches animation is what we think of when we hear "anime fan".

So while subs my be very appealing to those who appreciate it, reading those subs requires a lot of attention. And I can see a scenario where someone would prefer one show over the other because they don't need to stare at the screen and read to get the story.

Nowaday AS does minimal editing with their anime. I don't think leaving in the editted clips would add to or lessen my enjoyment. They only do it because of kiddies who channel flip at midnight.

It's not up to Adult Swim to decide the voice actors. They simply air the stuff that other companies managed to or not to butcher. I'm not sure if they can show undubbed series on Adult Swim, seeing that the Japanese audio is actually considered a special feature on the DVD's.

Besides, even if they could show subs, it won't be very appealing to the general public. Most of the people who like subs probably download fansubs or buy the DVD's themselves. Subs usually only appeal to true otakus who wish for the best dialogue out of their anime. For an average American I'm pretty sure that they would want to watch media spoken in their own native tongue. So you see, it's all about the general public.

But seriously, if the dubs bother you so much, just buy the DVD's. If you don't have the money, then just wait for a while. You're gonna have to get a job eventually... :? [/i]
