Who is tired of dubbed anime?

A. Dubs can't be 100% accurate since the voice actors have to match timed mouthflaps. There's only so much you can say.

B. Dubbing companies employ people.

C. Dubs make it possible for all the people who hate subs to watch anime. It also increases viewership in an audience that doesn't speak the language.

D. There are people who love U.S voice actors. (Yes, there are rabid Brian Cox and Crispin Freeman fans).

E. If you dislike dubs, buy dvds. Simple solution. If you can't afford dvds make due with what you have. =/ Others do.

Actually, I take that back, I generally dislike English dubbing, have yet to have a problem with any other language.

Dubbing is getting much much better then it used to be. Hellsing, Last Exile, Soul Hunter, Cowboy Bebop, the new GITS, Chrono Crusade, etc. are all excellently dubbed.

I've never had a problem with dubs per se, other than the fact that it's my own preference not to watch them (on principle, and based on the fact that I know enough Japanese to actually get something of the original voicework).

My main complaint has always been about the edits that go along with them, along with occasional poor quality of work. That's not to say all dubs have to be bad. A number of popular TV series do come off that way though.

is it the translations thchange anime to younger age levels or is it just tha translating al together

Dubbing is the process of making it look and sound like the originally-Japanese characters are speaking English.

Anime is still relatively new in the western world. Most people dont know what it is, and if they see subtitles it would be a turn off. If you dont like anime dubs on TV, go buy the dvd.

Now someone please lock this topic, which has bein beaten to death on every anime board in existence.

To each his own. I prefer dubs, particularely if they are well done, because I would rather watch the action than spend my time trying to keep up with reading a sub. Subs are great for those who prefer them.

I've always thought the whole sub/dub battle was pretty stupid. and only mattered to those who took it way too seriously. It's a form of entertainment. If hearing it in english makes you feel better than do it. If you want to read subtitles or just want to hear it in japanese guess what? you can do that too.

but on american TV, with English speaking viewers. Its just common sense to put it in english. no need to get your panties in a twist about it.

Heh, true enough - I may be a hardcore subbie, but I'll be the first to say that putting subbed anime on mainstream TV would be idiotic, and wouldn't float financially or popularly. As much as one might become averse to dubs after watching too much subs, that doesn't change the fact that the Joe Watchestv wants "his cartoons talking english", and wouldn't have "any of that chinese crap"

Which is all part of the reason I haven't watched TV in 3 years, but as long as there's dual-audio DVD's, and fansubs to go around, I'm content.

This is why I liked watching AXN when I was stationed in Korea. Subbed anime! Of course, this was a Malaysian or Filipino (can't remember which) cable network translating Japanese to English subtitles...so you can only imagine the quality of the subs.
