Hey is this video really that bad?
My star average says yes, but one opinion and I say no. Now don't judge it based on the music alone. You are not liable to like it, seeing as it's classical, even though it's Wagner. It's just not very well known Wagner. Watch the video and how well the action matches the (albeit bad, according to some) music, and then tell me it's not great! I dare ya!

Well, I haven't watched the video but I do have one comment... since when is Ride of the Valkyries one of Wagner's lesser known pieces??!?!!luctmrc wrote:It's just not very well known Wagner.

Being frankly honest, it's not great.
You have an interesting concept. But a lot of things are dragging it down. The FULL 1:30 intro to Stars is one thing. I almost stopped watching right then.
Then you have to look at the music. It's very quiet, very mellow, and has the same kind of pacing throughout the entire piece. There isn't a lot of build or conflict, and no real climax or denoument. (Which I think I mispelled)
When this is taken in combination with your concept, which essentially (though I did look at your story in the info) is a five minute summeration of the last...seven or so minutes of the end of the Neherenia arc of Stars, the video becomes even slower. The source footage is poor, and though you kept the subtitles in to tell the 'story' you end up making the audience focus on the subtitles and the story far more than the editing and the music.
What you essentially did was take out the audio for the scene and add in a new BGM track- something that's almost ignored at points because the viewer is watching the 'show' not a video.
While I do think it's an interesting idea, and I can see where you have edited the video to match the music, the final product feels like one long scene laid overtop of a music track and exported.
You might not like, or agree with this opinion, but realistically, this is why your star rating is so low.
Sorry for being so brutally honest, but I feel if you're confident enough to ask for an opinion (Especially on the wrong forum thread) you can handle a little honesty.
Besides. You dared me.

First, thanks for taking the time to watch and review my video so exhaustively.
Second, I agree with most of what you said. I do realize that what I made is more a snippet of the show with a different music track laid over it than a music video. But a music video is not what I set out to do. Given that, perhaps I should not be promoting it (which is what my real intention was when I asked for an opinion) and this thread really should be moved to a different section of the board, as making something like this involves no real skill, just an interesting idea and a bit of good luck, the latter of which isn't deserving of an award. But then perhaps we should have a category at the VCAs under which my Looney Tunes short would fit. It would be based on the freshness of the idea and the relatively montage-free format.
I agree that I probably should not have included the entire opening for Stars, but as I mentioned in the video description, this wasn't originally intended for public viewing and I didn't really feel like reediting the video.
I also didn't want to leave the subtitles in. This was not a creative decision. The source footage I had to work with was very low quality and had the subtitles in permanently so I had no choice there.
I haven't really tried making a real music video to be honest. Maybe I would be good at it, I don't know. What I do know is that I'm a little lazy and can't really commit such a large amount of time to a leisurely project right now. Maybe sometime in the future.
Well thanks again and take care.

...and after reading the first post, the video description and this last post, full of "I was too lazy" / "the source was cheap, but..." and "it's not a real video," you still think this is one of the best AMVs of the entire year? The. Best. Of. The. Entire. Year.?
You've got stones of titanium, my friend. But it's good that you can handle criticism. I hope you can also handle disappointment. Best of luck...

You're right, it's highly unlikely that it would be nominated for anything, much less win.
