RahXephon.

Post by atrophiedXlungs » Tue Jan 18, 2005 1:16 am

I recently saw the first five episodes of this anime, and I was wondering...is it worth it to buy the whole series? Because...I liked what I saw, truthfully. The animation was done by BONES, so it didn't surprise me that it was slick, and I enjoyed the music as well. However...the plot of the first five episodes seemed completely ripped off of Evangelion. I mean, the young boy meets an older woman, he gets a giant robot, he has to use the giant robot to save people from aliens, he moves in with the older woman and a girl who's kinda bratty...it's a tough choice, really. I truly enjoyed what I saw, but I don't really want to buy it if it's just an Eva rip-off (though an incredibly well-done one, from what I watched).

So, help. Please.
It was inevitable: the scent of bitter almonds always reminded him of the fate of unrequited love.

Keep watching it. As the episodes progress, RahXephon will become MUCH different than Evangelion. It's seriously a good series.

I liken RahXephon to 'Eva done right.' I love Eva, it'll always be one of my favorite series, but RahXephon is *excellent* the whole way through, and although there are a couple particularly frustrating 'oh em gee they ripped off Eva!' moments, it still doesn't take away from how good the Rah is.

Yeah I enjoyed the first few epps too. But I found that as the series progressed their was just something about the characters which I hated. Their emotions and feelings just got progresively more unrealistic as the series went on. I just wasnt able to conect with, or care for any of the characters. In the end I just found it boring and somewhat meaningless.

I urge you to continue with it as well. It gets progressively better, mixing science/mythology and allusions to dare I say music theory (I'm a band kid, so I loved that). I avoided getting the rest of it for about 3 months after I bought the first dvd, but it really picks up and (IMO) has a satisfying ending.

And let's face it, the animation is pretty.

Keep watching it. As Angel has said it will become less like Eva. In a good way of course. I loved the series, it's in my top 5.

Would have given more explaination of why, but that has been covered in previous posts. :P

Funny. I felt that way above Eva. Just didn't connect with any of the characters (except Gendo, of all people), so the whole thing was hollow and meaningless in the end.

The one thing that bugged me about RahXephon was the actions of Ayato and his best friend from Tokyo (forget his name) Near the end, they do a lot of things completely out of character. The movie explains a lot of it better and gives you a better understanding of a lot of character's motivations, but it also contradicts the series at some points (not much, though)

Ok. Well tonight on eBay I got the entire set, and the OVA + box. I spent like $90 including shipping, so it had better not dissappoint. Otherwise, I'm coming to everyone's house(except for bum's, as he didn't reccommend it) and demanding fifteen dollars.
