Whoever told you this probably didn't know what they were talking about.

It doesn't matter where it's linked from, it's still is too big, espcially for people using 56k and the like.

as stated in forum rules, rule No. 4:

"Linked forum avatars shall not be larger than 80 pixels tall or 80 pixels wide; any avatar image exceeding these limits will be removed from the sig file without warning. "

If you say "Then why havent the mods removed it yet? than the answer is simply that they have more pressing issues on their hands.
