Depends on what style of music where talking about, my cousin is neither rich or stupid and he plays for the music, of course the cash is a bonus but he hasnt made a profit in years, hes happy doing what he loves to do.

note: he plays in a goth/melodic metal band down here in australia

You mean no one in the corporate music industry makes music for the music. I know plenty of people personally that play music because they sincerely like to, and not because they have any hope of their talent taking them anywhere. But even in the corporate industry, I could argue that some bands really do make music because they love it. Then they sell it because it takes up so much of their time, and they need to make a living. Although, that's more and more rare nowadays, it seems.

Suffice it to say I am yet to buy an album of my favorite band that fell short of expectations.

If your still in the forum Umbrellacompany, there is no cool like Metallica. Just do a search for the band on the site or on a sales chart for metal albums.
