It's very very difficult to change a person. I may say that FLCL changed me or made me see things that I couldn't see before. Or maybe I'm just Foolycoolized.
I also took some things from Evangelion, G.T.O., Kare Kano (I know this one made me do things I couldn't have done)...
GITS also showed me really interesting things.
And now that Im seeing Twelve Kingdoms Im starting to take into account several things that I should to become a better person, to like myself and to achieve my dreams and desires.

Some trends I've noticed with many people over the years is that many (Not All Obviously) people actually come into anime during periods of great stress in their lives. Depression, anger, jealousy, ect ect.... have all seemed to be feelings people have overcome by watching anime. I think all of us can relate when we say an anime has had a profound impact on us, it won't always be the same anime or the same impact but the feeling is the same. We see something there and it goes to heart. My little essay aside, Cowboy Bebop, the series and the movie. Huge impact on me, helped me learn to really not worry so much about things. As Spike said, "Whatever happens, happens." (I love that line) Also, Rurouni Kenshin, has helped me become more disciplined in my life and has taught me something of what it means to have inner strength of heart and character.

Well, that first part might be true for most people, but just to show the other side I will say when I got into anime, I was proabably at the hight of my power I guess you can call it, the only thing that was really bumming me out was my RPGs.

Anyway as for the idea that animes make people feel better I will totally agree with that. I remember not to long ago, I was getting really pissed off because I couldn't fix my brothers crappy computer, so we could play age of mythology together. Shit I was more pissed than ever. It was late at night to so I was tired, and then before I went to bed I was even more pissed that I missed the time when I ususally watch anime, which is from like 10-12pm It was 12 pm and I thought "Screw the fact that I am tired." And then I watched Fruit baskets, and man after that I felt a lot camler happier, and just overall better. Those episdoes where really funny and that is proabably just want I needed. In case you are wondering the episodes I watched was 3,4,5,6. But that anime definatly cheared me up, so like you said anime can help people in times of I guess emotional stress.

anime that changed my life

Post by inuhikarifan » Thu Feb 17, 2005 12:50 am

the anime that changed my life was DNAngel, because it was the first anime my friend made me watch. If it wasn't for that one, I never would have gotten into anime, which would have been terrible. After all, as someone else said, anime is the only the thing that keeps me sane!

Iv'e always seen Milk Chan as a Japanese version of Ren & Stimpy, as far as the feel goes with less violence.

im not sure if there was and particular series that had a big effect over me, but definetly over the years its had an effect over me, i cant really think of nothing good at the moment but it has.

Watching Trigun made me feel bad about killing people. Not that I stopped or anything, but I sure feel guilty about it.

I cant say that any one anime series or movie has changed my life, but they have all caused me to lose money forcing me to work for a living. Quite life changing.

Rurouni Kenshin taught me alot about life, honor, humility, and putting your friends lives over your own. And naruto introduced me to the real life world of ninjustu.....which I'm really glad for.
I plan to live forever....so Far so good.

I'd have to agree with most everyone here in that anime can help change people.

There is no particular anime that changed my life but Tenchi Muyo got me started. Anime is also one of my big stress releivers. The last time I was in Iraq anime was the only thing that kept me partaily sane. My NewTypeUSA subscription was the one thing that I looked forward to getting in the mail, when it got through that is, more so than letters from family. I imagin that this next and last tour there will be the same way. I use anime, reading, and video games as ways of calming down, and relaxing. Without it I would probably be out of the military on a psycological chapter and be in therapy for life.
