To start off I have never seen Naruto.
Why are so many people whining about how it will be dubbed and edited?
Yes the dub will not be like the original voice acting, because you can not translate everything. Also, some words will have to change so it will apeal to a larger group of fans.
It will also have to be edited some for TV. If it is not edited for TV some parent could see it and whin about how their child is watching the violent "cartoon". And then it could be edited even heavier or taken off air.

The companies are trying to make a profit off of this and also trying to make it enjoyable for everyone to watch.

If you do not like the english dub that much do not watch it. Just watch the original japanese version.

I'm glad it got licensed, and I hope that Viz and Cartoon Network hunt down fansubbers who keep doing it to the ends of the friggin' earth. THat would mean the erradication of such groups - at least some of them. Less harm they can do in the future.

What's wrong with bootlegs? Cost less, almost the same...

obh04: thank you for reiterating what many people have already said. I'm so glad you posted here.

Garylisk: I suppose you were one of the people saying "Down with Napster" too?

Neo-Matrix: you have been saying what all the other Naruto fans have been saying. So what is the point of it? There is two sides to this thing. We all have the right to say what we want. Naruto is coming to America dubbed and there is nothing you can do. So just get over it.

Cause we'd like to believe that how good the dub is and how intact the anime is shown is related to how successful a series will be on TV. But since their not listening there is no use in complianing. Just a mild hope that it will be handled well and if it isn't that they will reap what they sow... or something like that.

And its great that someone finally licensed it, good business for the anime industry, although I'm not looking forword to restarting the anime (so I won't  ) but I'm sure it will attract many new anime fans dispite how the first two issues pan out (see DBZ).

It was a fun ride and all but not really my thing, more of like a series I'd borrow from a friend or watch on TV from time to time.

Nah, the music industry was and is corrupt, and fucks over a lot of people. they can go to hell.

Anime companies are bringing over quality entertainment, helping anime become more mainstream, and generally don't fuck anyone, including fansubbers.

Why should I support the hurting of someone who is helping?

That's like punching the pimply McDonalds cashier in the face and running off with your food and not paying for it. He never did anything to you except be nice and give you food. Why shoudl you have any malicious intentions towards him unless YOU are the one who is evil and corrupt?

Music industry on the other hand is like having a big boss who is constantly punching all hsi employees, so you decide to punch him back.

Music industry doesn't care. Napster was still theft, but at least it was stealing from a corporation that would rather sue 12 year olds for having mp3's than concentrate on making music better so it actually sells.

Anime industry, on the other hand, cares a lot. For the most part, all the companies love fan suggestions, are very appreciative of sales, do their best to bring over a good product, and love the fans a lot. Just go to a convention, talk with the guys at the anime ocmpany booths, email the companies, etc... You'll see. This is a growing industry in America, and they need support and a bigger fanbase. They're doing a damn good job, but in the end, it's unappreciative punk kids that end up stealing the product, so it's really no loss to the company - those kids couldn't afford it anyway.

BUT you know what? Back in the old days, guess what you had to do if you couldn't afford something?

You just plain couldn't have it. Gee, wouldn't that suck for all of you people out there who claim you DL licensed shows because you don't have the money for the show. Or you plan to buy it "someday". Big friggin deal. You shouldn't be ALLOWED to do that stuff. End of story.

almost nothing... you're 80% likely to be paying for video source recorded from TV and then slapped on a DVD (defeats the purpose of claiming you have it on DVD, cause the quality is only passable on low-end TVs). You also have to consider the people offering the subtitles know limited English, unless they stole the text from a fansubbing group the translation/spelling will be aweful.

I've never bought a bootleg personally cause I considered it, researched it, then found out it really wasn't worth it. Every now and then you can find a bootleg that is ripped from a Japanese or American release, but even those have video errors.

Bootleg? Ye might as well download it from the internet - even cheaper, just as illegal, and faster...

Naruto? I love that series!
