Legend of Black Heaven

Post by Brsrk » Thu Feb 17, 2005 3:25 pm

After reading some synopsis' for this anime and watching a few vids, this seemed like it would interest me. An anime about metal. After seeing TJ's vid, that's what cause this all.

So, I was wondering what others thought of this series, I'm considering buying it for myself soon.

I bought it (all 4 discs). It was cool. This should be sufficient.

As a side note, it's not so much about metal per se as it is about maturity, and dealing with same. I'm reminded of a quote from some rock critic that I read in an early biography of Bruce Springsteen: "Some people say that critics remain attached to rock'n'roll because they wish to preserve their youth. This is stupid; say rather that they wish to preserve their rebellion." The idea is that the essence of rock'n'roll is a lasting quality that is not mediated or diminished by wearing a tie instead of leather pants.

It's very much worth it. What Kai said is basically true, but you can't overlook the fact that the show is also about rock saving the universe :o

I absolutely loved it.

The DVD covers make it look like a very dark and bizarre show, but it's actually a fun, lighthearted series. The characters are great, the music is...amusing, and the plot is a lot of fun.
I have no idea how to use this new forum.

I love the artwork for those covers, especially the first two volumes. But yeah, they do make the show out to be kinda dark and strange. Same thing with the show's intro.

It's definetly worth buying. The animation is superb, the music is some of the best rock in anime. The fact that the opening theme is done buy an American. John Sykesis a great artistand his music fits so well with the anime it's crazy. The others are right about the cover art making you think that the story is going to be dark. The opening theme is the same way, but when you watch the closing credits they are more in keeping with the rest of the animation. If anyones got any of the wallscrolls they are the same as the cover art.

Legend of Black Heaven is one of my all time favorites. No stupid teens as main characters, hard-rock and anime comedy I'll actually laugh at. Funny stuff includes when Mulder and Scully from X-Files make a brief cameo and the true story behind the death of the keyboard player. I'm also keen on the rotoscoping done for the opening sequence.
If you're into that kind of music check out the soundtrack.
If you're sane, avoid watching the live-action commercial extra (disc 2?) or you may find yourself singing the horrid song. ARGH!
