However, the Chakra effects do look like the power effects in DBZ, and it is a anime in the same style (read: Boys anime, Shonen)
I think I know what you mean about it being a 'style' thing. I thought Lee went 'super saiyan' really blatantly at one point in the anime, everything from the raised hair & energy, to the level jumping bit. But I noticed there's a similar thing in Fushigi Yugi - same 'changes' for the power jump. Now...FY is a shoujo anime as far as I know, and Naruto/DBZ is shonen. So maybe we could say it's a "Japanese style" rather than one just for 'boy's anime'. Either that, or they're both copying off DBZ.

As for general comparisons, I think the horridly drawn out fight (really just them talking and not moving for 9 episodes) between the old hokage and Orochimaro was as bad as Goku and Cell. Sure, Naruto gave us other things to look at while that fight was at a standstill, but the fight still lasted episodes with little to no progress. After a certain point, postponing the 'outcome' stops being a tension builder and starts being very annoying. I'm surprised that battle isn't touted the most in comparisons of the two anime. They literally stood and stared at each other for at least 4 episodes.

One thing I think Naruto does well is building the various characters. There are a lot of them, and each one - even rarely seen ones like Ino, get backgrounds and motives and interraction that makes them 'real.' With so many established real characters, it's natural to have a very long anime. That makes each fight important - in dbz how many people really care to see minor characters like Yamcha and Krillin fight each other? Naruto makes those minor fights important, and it doesn't skimp on them at all. It reminds me of YYH or the One Piece manga - every character is important, even if he's only shown in 1/100th of the anime. If they make me care about *all* the characters, I don't mind complicated plots that span a few hundred episodes.

It could be like Inuyasha. o.O The same stale cast doing the same thing with the same villain, driven by ungrowing romance. I'd rather have a wide mix of motives and character-types with a developing plot.

As for the fanbases, yes, Naruto is the next DBZ. Is there any argument about that? At least on this website, Naruto is sweeping the boards, becoming the most used anime, taking the most spots on the top vids lists for a single anime, and getting the most attention by rabid fans. We knew it would be long before we found out it was getting licensed. It has what long anime like Inuyasha (or even Detective Conan) lacks - a range of things to appeal to male and female fans, and enough anti-fans to make it the subject of endless debates.

I'm not a big fan of the anime as much as I am of the manga (cause manga rules hands down). I am thouroughly enjoying the manga. The nly part of the Naruto anime that I enjoyed and watched was the Zabuza and Haku Arc. I'm not intrested in the episodes after that in the anime.

However, I do think Naruto is a bit over-rated yet at the same time, it doesn't fall in the likes of Dragon Ball Z (it's not bad but something I don't enjoy personally). It does draw close to the DBZ series with the explosions and some of the fight scenes but I think this series has a bit more depth and meaning to it.

And who cares if you like Naruto. It's your right to watch it and doesn't make you a different anime fan than the person who watches Sailor Moon or the person who watches Cowboy Bebop. It's basically the same. As for Naruto being liscened, I'm fairly happy. I like watching dubs and some dubs are good (trigun, FLCL, bebop, Ghost in the Shell). I don't know what ShoPro will do with Naruto but I won't slate it for the end of the world quite yet.

Vegeta, once more, why don't you try and add just something to the discussion...

I generally like Anime more then the manga (i guess i'm to lazy for page flipping) and i really like the Naruto Anime - as i stated before...

I do think it is too bad you hear less and less from side characters and bad guys. At the Zabuza level, you knew just about everything from everyone...
Nowadays, i already seen 2 kills (the guys with the orochimaru seals) of guys i didnt know why they actually fight Naruto's gang. Also, i think the fact that the cursed arms of orochimaru cannot be solved with soul exchange since they are cut off his soul... But oh well... I'm just a whiner

When I ftrsrt started reading Naruto was a year ago when a friend of mine gave me a Shonen Jump and it was after the Kakahsi and Zabuza fight and they were training. I just got attached to Zabuza and Haku. Awesome characters.

I cant understand why people like those two. I personally thought them to be boring. That whole jitsu, the glass one was too long. the only cool thing was when Naruto thought Sasuke was dead. Also when Zabuza did Berserker and went and nailed the boss. It was sad though when they both died.

The only reason I really think Haku is cool is because he is in this video

My reasoning cause I admire Haku's devotion to Zabuza that he is willing to die. He isn't afraid to kill anyone for person he loves ambitions. As for Zabuza, I think he's misunderstood and as well saw in the end, cared deeply for Haku. Also, the lives of both Haku and Zabuza gave a hint into the life of a Shinobi. I also love Zabuza's sword as well as the type of Zabuza's and Haku's justsus. Without that arc, Naruto wouldn't of "released" the nine-tails seal until possibly later, Sasuke wouldn't of developed the Sharigan Eye enough for the Chuunin Exams,a nd Sakura wouldn't of been confident.

Ah i was about to disagree because of Zabuza saying he doesnt care about Haku or sumthing. I cant remember but then i realised.

"Yes he does love Haku as you see when Haku and Zabuza lie together to die."

I don't see much more room for discussion. This thread seems to be floating off track and is drifting off topic
