Isn't the style working all that matters? (apart from staying close to true translation)The Hitokiri Battousai wrote: But because that style worked with FLCL, it was good. That's how I saw it.
why does everyone seem to hate dubs?

sorry for the double post,.
Actually, I have seen the southern bell accent work before. Good Excel had one in the english dub, but Excel Saga is so odd, that doesn't really count. Oddly enough, Su's accent was the one that really messed me up. Keitaro's was confusing, because I had watched the first episode dubbed just moments before, and his voice lost all redeeming qualities, and Kitsune was last. apart from those three, nobody's voice really messed up theexperience, and those just took getting used too.The Hitokiri Battousai wrote:Not sure...but it just doesn't sound right for the character. They might of been trying to get close to the accent but it just makes me cringe whenever Kitsune talks..Malificus wrote:While I must admit, I do prefer the texan version of the Osaka accent (like in Abenobashi), how else do you propose to show her accent?.

I was really dissapointed with Wendee Lee, who is one of my favorites with her role as Suu. Funny thing is, she should of voiced Motoko or Kanako. The person who should of voiced Su was the voice actor for Ed from Cowboy Bebop who in turn voiced Kanako. They messed up on thier choices.Malificus wrote:sorry for the double post,.Actually, I have seen the southern bell accent work before. One of the Aasu sisters in Puni Puni Poemy also has a dubbed "southern" accent where the original Japanese actress used an Osakan accent. (If you haven't seen it, the Aasu Sisters were representative of every Japanese anime female type.)Malificus wrote:While I must admit, I do prefer the texan version of the Osaka accent (like in Abenobashi), how else do you propose to show her accent?
I agree.Malificus wrote:And of course, FLCL has the perfect dub.
