Not to mention that if we award people for certain amounts of posts, we're encouraging pointless posts...

Perhaps have it time-based, going by the join date? Of course that still raises the issue of newly active "old" members, but it might show some dedication to the forum. And, very likely, those who have stayed on the forum for a year have gotten used to being on topic and maintaining some measure of forum etiquette.derobert wrote:Not to mention that if we award people for certain amounts of posts, we're encouraging pointless posts...

Then set it to a higher number. Most, if not all regulars here probably have at least 2000 posts. Anyone that tries to get in by spaming will get sick of trying by 1000 post and probably be discouraged from posting anymore because of it. You could also just PM anyone who would be applicable for viewing the forum, instead of announcing it publicly. That would keep the "wrong people" from knowing.derobert wrote:Not to mention that if we award people for certain amounts of posts, we're encouraging pointless posts...

...or we could do what I was suggesting even before the OT went down, and simply hire an additional complement of very determined (and perhaps even strict to the point of being anal) mods to squash the stupidity with mighty dictatorial powers, taking away OT priveleges of any abusers on the spot

The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…
