What exactly is Puni Puni Peomi??

Post by Bardiel13 » Sun Mar 13, 2005 7:04 pm

I saw the trailer for it during Excel Saga and I wondered... does it have anything to do with Excel Saga? Is it another "Experimental Anime?" If the director is in it, will the rest of the cast be there? Where's the Excel, Hyatt, and most importantly... MENCHI?!?! Bardiel is so confused...
It doesn't look like a sequel to Excel Saga, but I pray every night that I will one day hear "I, Koshi Rikdo, hereby give permission to revive the Excel Saga anime."

Puni Puni Poemi is a 2-episode OVA done by the same people behind Excel Saga. Nabeshin is a character, the art is generally the same, but that's as far as the similarities go.

Imagine an hour-long version of Excel Saga ep 26 kicked up several notches. Tha'ts about what it is.

Yep, if you're expecting a sequel, that ain't it. But it's quite probably the next best thing.

Puni Puni Poemi was that series that kept talking about being created during Excel Saga. Remember the meetings that Rikdo had with the others about what it was going to be while looking at rough sketches?

As for a sequel, I would guess that it would be a number of years before that can even be a possiblity. Excel Saga really had no plot at all. It intentionally spoofed anime and pop culture genres. It pretty much hit all of them over the course of the series. There is going to have to be a lot more accumulated in order to try their hand again at that kind of referential humor. The series did premier in 1999 in Japan, so it at least has 6 years under it's belt.

It's the best anime ever, plain and simple.

Seriously though, if you haven't seen it, DO!
