I found Steel Angel Kurumi to be very good overall.
Season 1 of Kurumi starts out as a very funny series that gets more and more serious as the show continues. "Steel Angel" Marionettes are awakened in the early 20th century and try to blend in with a post-World War I Japan. Compared to other "marionette" shows, it has its own unique spins that makes it very enjoyable to watch.
After Season 1 comes Kurumi Encore, a set of 4 OVAs that present side-stories after Season 1 featuring most of the characters back for more, bringing much-needed comedy back into the series again.
Finally, you have Kurumi Season 2, which brings Kurumi and company into the present day. Much of the story is reminiscent of Project A-Ko, but it does have that Kurumi spin that makes it its own fun (and funny) series.
If you see the Steel Angel Kurumi Complete Boxset out there, and if you are over 18 (it carries a 17+ suggested rating for many reasons), then it's definitely a must-buy set, IMHO.
(There is a fourth Kurumi series called Steel Angel Kurumi Zero that takes place in the 26th Century, but apparently it didn't do well because it was never completed -- it ended after three or four episodes. This one is not included with the Steel Angel Kurumi Complete Boxset)

That was the first anime series I ever bought on dvd. The first season was funny, encore, was pretty good too, but the second season was just so awful that they had to cancel it. I am reading the manga now, and that seems as bad as the second season. I am on manga five and I am hoping it is going to be getting better soon, but if I where you just get the first season and encore, that is really all you need.

It would be nice if they explained some of the questions they left you in the first season, so I was sort of looking foward to a second season, but it looked as if that really wasn't going anywhere. Oh, wellVegeta_ssj4 wrote:by the way it funny i wish it keep goingEvangelion Unit 01 wrote:That was the first anime series I ever bought on dvd. I love the first season. It's a masterpiece, especially the last few episodes. Very fun, and visually beautiful. I had no complaints.
The Encore OVAs were...meh, not needed, but they were just for the sake of extra fun, so they were ok too.
Steel Angel Kurumi 2 I did not care for...it was entertaining, but it's not something I needed to see. It has it's moments though.
But yeah, I bought the complete box set with the first series, the OVAs, and the second series for $35.00. An excellent buy if you ever come across it.
