Need good examples of "The Basics".

Post by Big Big Truck » Tue Mar 15, 2005 8:51 pm

Kamikazecon has asked me to host a "Basics of AMV Editing" panel. Aside from discussing editing techniques that work across platforms and across equipment, I'd like to show a few videos that show THE BASICS: good timing, good footage & music selection, fitting mood, etc. NO FANCY EFFECTS - just crossfades and cuts. Videos that could be made in iMovie or WMM just as easily as in Final Cut.
(Something along the lines of Brad DeMoss' "Banditos", but I don't think that's available in a hi-res digital format...)

I haven't made an AMV or gone to an AMV contest since 2002, so I'm way behind on what's good out there.

Any recommendations are welcome - I look forward to watching your recommendations! 8-)

Arigatomina's Animal Attraction might work.

Koop's Through Time, Through Space and Waking Hour would definetely work.

Other than Crazy-Ass Violence? :)

Check out these, maybe:

Animal Attraction
Every Breath You Take
Hale's Mom
Everyone is Different (the effects used are fairly simple, they might even be in WMM)
Rock me Hideaki!

Okay, so I just took my nominees from the VCAs this year. :o

This video is the simplest timed video I've ever made. With only one fade into the song from the opening logo, it's all about timing and straight cuts.

hope it helps :)

I don't have a link, but Fluxy's "Beautiful Earth" from AWA Masters.

what the hell, maybe mine could be of some use. I used Virtuadub only for them, so that's about as low tech as you can get. I'll tell you right off the video quality is one of the worst aspects of each of them. They're both in my sig.

The berserk one might be used for a storytelling example (pushing it, I know) but TCBT might show how a seemingly random combination could be amusing

so as not to be a total shameless bastard, other effectless videos:

Scott A Melzer : All Star - the Irresponsible Captain Tylor - just a plain good idea and good scene choice
Pistol Packing Rally - Gunsmith Cats - made by MoreThanToast, so advanced editing software may have been used, but there's no effects in it other than fades, so it might be useful
bogosort - Stress - Cowboy Bebop - a sensational video proving effects are unnecessary. May have been made in more advanced software though.

Hmm, that's all I can think of off the top of my head that I know where to find on here. side note, thank you for failed experiments in video editing.[/url]
AMVs that I have made:
Berserk - The Fight Must Go On - Drama, Action, Violent, Story
Teenage Cowboy Bebop Turtles(TCBT) - Fun, Trailer, Parody

This sounds like a another good RVG showing opportunity. 8-)
