CowBoy Bebop?

Post by WBJ » Sat Mar 19, 2005 9:05 pm

Ok, today i picked up the newest Anime Insider Magazine and they had an article about CowBoy Bebop coming back. Now this isn’t what you think it is or maybe it is, anyway there making new DVDs of the animation series. The new DVDs will be called Remix which will be similar to the Bebop Perfect Collection DVD that will hopefully come out this year. The Remix version will have a whole bunch of extras including Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound, Japanese and English music tracks, trailers etc... Now here comes the question are they going to pick off where Bebop ended? Well Anime Insider sat down with the producers and asked about if there will be a sequel to the series, well there not talking. Now this isn’t really a no or a yes. Personally i liked how Bebop ended and prefer it to stay that way. :D

its impossible to have a 2nd season, anyone how has watched the serise knows this. The ending was the ending, there is no way for Bebop to be the same after the last 3 episodes. they could do more movies though, and thats all they can do IMO. they're just longer episodes that don't touch the history of the charaters at all.

I agree with you 100 percent but cam down, it’s not like there already putting it into production. Its just talk and besides I don’t think that they will because the whole staff loved the ending.

It is possible that they can play in the universe that Bebop created. The creator of the original Macross saga said that he was never again going to revist the original triangle of Misa/Minmei/Hiraku, but they did create sequals with other characters (Macross Plus was my favorite :D ).

When a story is done it is done... A spin off might be possible, but I would not hold out for the return of Spike,Jet,Ed, Faye, and Ein...

Well a sequel COULD be possible... Spike wasn't dead, he was just resting... right? RIGHT?!?!? lol, I'm just playin around. Of course I hate it when the guy I've been watching kick ass for 26 episodes and 1 movie get killed in the last episode just gives me such a hollow feeling...

They are making new episodes of Cowboy Bebop (kind of).

BANDAI Games is coming out with Cowboy Bebop for PS2.

From what I've seen, it is going to feature all new stories with the original VO cast coming back to record for them, with story direction being done by Shinchiro Watanabe.

BANDAI Games has been pretty good in keeping in line with the core of the anime properties, usually making whole new "episodes" as part of the gaming experience (for example, the .hack games, the "episodic" format of Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, the many anime sequences and multi-endings of InuYasha: Secret of the Cursed Mask, and all the great VO and story work to recreate DBZ in the DragonBall Z Budokai games & DBZ Sagas)

If there are going to be new stories for Cowboy Bebop, they will be in the PS2 game.

Just so people know where this "new" Bebop is coming from -

In late fall (November or so), Bandai released a new Cowboy Bebop Perfect Collection in Japan, with the aforementioned 5.1DTS audio tracks. It also includes Session 0 (or 9, or something like that) which has all sorts of extras (interview, etc).

So basically it's the same concept as Evangelion: Renewal. Knowing how bad the original R1 Bebop DVDs were, hopefully this new edition will include much nicer footage as well...

:?:

I just watched my DVD versions, and don't see the reason for visual "clean-up" in the project. It's not really as important as Evangelion's 5.1 + clean-up, which was based on an anime done much, much earlier.

Bebop doesn't really have any serious video problems I've seen (while Eva had the infamous "Evangelion jitter"), and the animation is still first-rate, so "clean-up" really isn't as necessary for it.

Also, I have Best Sessions, and after seeing it, I wasn't too impressed with the 5.1 mix compared to the stereo mix. I actually preferred the stereo mix to most of the Best Session mixes -- the exception being Ballad of Fallen Angels.

Cowboy Bebop: The Movie already has the most Bebop extras ever.

So, when it comes to a Cowboy Bebop renewal, what will there be to get fans who own everything Cowboy Bebop (like me) to go buy the series again?

I can't guarantee that there was visual cleanup on the new Perfect Collection, as I haven't ponied up $400 to buy it.

However, there *are* issues with the Bebop R1 DVDs. They compressed 4-5 episodes to fit onto a DVD5 disc (4.5GB). Keep in mind that these discs were released in 2000 back when nobody knew what they were doing in terms of compression. To quote VicBond:

VicBond007 (7:01:34 PM): The American audience is ignorant. We've been fed divx anime for so long we've become desensitized as far as visual quality.
VicBond007 (7:01:57 PM): Remember, we're the country that compressed Bebop to 4.5Mbits/sec

There was no change to anything in the Perfect Collection -- it's still the 6 original DVDs. (Click here to see the release information on ANN)

Compared to Evangelion, which was made roughly 15-17 years ago, Bebop was only made 8 years ago.

Also, even if they do take the original footage and recompress it in something lossless and add lighting effects, is that enough of a change to warrant re-buying the series? Are they going to update Cowboy Bebop in the same way they updated Evangelion (as this thread pointed out with screenshots)?
