Choosing which scenes to use

I was just wondering how do people here who use Adobe Premiere choose what scenes to use?

Originally I used windows moviemaker and it was much easier to choose your scenes, and it didn't lag up. How do people using AP do it? Watch before hand and get certain parts or what?

I don't exactly understand your question. You mean technically speaking, right? ...other than watching it in fast-forward and picking out ones you like? I don't think there's anything more to it than that...

If you've got lag, that's a separate problem. I generally can't use AVS directly in Premiere because of uber death lag; I have to use the system where you make compressed copies and convert back to AVS right at the end.

Could you rephrase it, is also what I'm asking. Also, depending on your rephrasing, this might fare better in Software Help. But I don't know.

WMM by defualt splits the scens up into little clips lasting a few second each. THis may make it easier for newbies, but its time consuming and a pain when doing more serios editing. In premier and most other NLE's the anime would be one "block" and you'd just cut/paste scenes from it into other tracks on the timeline.

You pretty much got what I was saying.

The question I guess generally was, "Do you watch it first on your TV then remember those exact parts, or do you just watch it on premiere or wherever and get it then".

When I used WMMM I just had it put each episode in one large block since splitting it up took too much time. The only problem, is that I can't watch it in premiere because it lags so extremely. Not only that, but even when going up or down a like three frames it lags up so I get something wrong there.

Well, in the only vid ive done using premeire so far, I actually storyboarded around half the clips in my vid by just watchin in fastforward and writing down times. The other half i just got by watchin in premeire in fastforward. Then again my comp is ubersexy so it doesnt lag or freeze as much...

Okay - in that case yeah, I generally load the whole thing into Premiere and skim through; I could fall asleep holding right-arrow/shift.

I haven't done the clip-making thing until a very recent project, because I never had to. I don't rewatch the series with a notebook because it seems like it would take longer, and I'd probably get distracted just watching and forget to write things down. Heh.

But this is one of those things where you have to do whatever works for you, and polling people on what they do probably isn't going to help a whole lot.

Nowadays I look for scenes in DVD2AVI rather than in Premiere Pro; it's SO much faster.
Once I've found what I'm looking for, then I go back to Premiere and clip it and plop it in the timeline.

Same here skin (well, similar). I normaly use vdud when looking for specific scenes, as it lets me searth through a clip very fast. However, vegas is usualy adequate enough as it creats a frame image for every x number of seconds of a clip, depending on the zoom level. Scrubing through the timeline can also help.

lilmrhalfazn , your signature is way too big. THe limit is 4 lines of text or an image height of 40 pixels.

Same here, I cut the scenes or group of scenes in v'dub.
