Most overused songs: Your oppinions expressed here
Hey, I'm intrested in making AMV's and I think I'm fairly ready to go, but as I've been around I've realized that there are quite a few songs that have been overused. I want to know from you expereacned AMV makers, what's the most overused song?
Daisuke (DNAngel) and Yamato are my heros. ALL HAIL WIZ!

"Your idea"?
You ought to have more confidence in your own originality. Surely it's naive to think that everyone hears a song, sees and anime, and then proceeds to imagine the exact same video in their head!

The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

As far as we're concerned, we try to do original music, but if our best and most plausible idea is for a popular, even overused song, we'll do it- IF we think we can do better than at least 90% of the videos already out there for that song. I mean, you can be scared off by the huge number of Linkin Park AMVs out there, but have you considered exactly how many of them are going to be utter shite and not even worth consideration? If you can raise yourself above the rest, you shouldn't worry about being just one in a thousand others, as long as you're the one that stands out.
We are in fact gambling a lot on this very concept by doing a 'Chop Suey!' AMV, another one of the most overused songs of all. In the past we've done an Iris AMV (which we're currently remaking) and a Papercut AMV and we think we've got away with them by working hard to make them quality works, not just another piece of two-hour rubbish. However 'Chop Suey!' is a different kettle of fish altogether- it attracted a large amount of attention and if we want to be noticed at all we really do have to take the title of 'Best Chop Suey AMV'. Frankly, I don't think we can do it, but we're going to have a go anyway. We've done well with original works too- our video 'You Are My Star' has a 9.25 average even though we ourselves aren't happy with it (largely because of the originality of the song, 'Dizzy' by The Goo Goo Dolls) and 'Chosen Shildren, Cursed Salvation' marked the start of our campaign to get more exposure for Australian music by using The Living Ends' hit, 'Save the Day' But we find a different challenge in doing AMVs with unoriginal music (even if the anime is original) and we hope we can pull this one off again.
I'm sorry, did I diverge from the original topic? Let me paraphrase- there's no such thing as an unoriginal song, only an unoriginal AMV. The difference is you.

In January I released a video using Evanescence's "My Immortal", a song that currently has 179 videos done to it listed in the database.
(Not as many as that other Evanescence song, but that's still a fairly big number.)
I thought it would get low originality scores. It didn't.
But maybe that's because people still aren't used to seeing serious FLCL videos.

I never thought about how original the idea for my latest video (Taijitsu for Dummies) was until after i had compleated it. Not only the song (well... not my mix, but the song in general), but the anime was used for many AMVs. I decided to check a few out, see what i was comparing my self to; The results ranged from bad to complete crap... I couldn't even finish watching some they were so poorly done.
From this i gathered a few things. Chief among my observations was that if your video is bad, it's going to be given low scores for being bad, not for being overused. If it's good, however, then you may stand out -- that is, of course, if it's a concept with a large percentage of other bad videos. If you try to do some thing that has been done well before several times then you'll be given low origionality scores.
Don't limit yourself though. If you want to make a video, make it for yourself. It's your artistic expression so channel your energy to do what you want to make for yourself. Also, don't look to see if a concep is overused in the first place; that way you don't have to feign ignorance when confronted by someone saying your concept has been done to death, you legitimately won't know.
