Xenosaga 2?

Post by qaenyin » Mon Mar 21, 2005 4:56 am

Has anyone considered making an ACTUAL xenosaga 2 video?

By actual, I mean no subtitles, good video quality, and using actual game scenes instead of trailers?

The game has so many potential scenes I am shocked that it has not had an AMV of the GAME rather than the trailers yet.

Same goes for Star Ocean 3, no AMVs and its been out for a half year.

Do people just not like these games or something?

It's not that people don't like these games, it's that it's kinda boring to just watch game footage. Unlike 2D anime (and, to a limited extent, CG scenes from games like FFX), it's next to impossible to manipulate gameplay footage from games such as those you mentioned.

In addition, gameplay footage is a pain to collect (especially if you want to show that Super Ultra Special Move that you only did once by accident), cameras in a lot of RPGs are a pain to manipulate... etc etc etc.

Now, there *are* exceptions to the "nobody in their right mind would use modern gameplay footage" rule (<a href="http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members ... v=9644">to wit</a>, plus the RVG/NES projects which don't really count because of what you'r easking), but yeah. Don't expect a flood of gameplay AMVs anytime soon.

Well I am comparing to things such as Xenosaga 1, AMVs consisting not of gameplay but of cutscenes. Look up the two Xenosaga episode 1 AMVs by Lord Ecks for examples.

The fact is it is quite easy to capture movies in XS2 or Star Ocean with a few different methods(though what they are, as I am not an AMV producer, I do not know) In addition a Certain well known GAMEFAQS board member on the Xenosaga 2 boards has, if I am not mistaken, gone to record EVERY cutscene in the game and post them on his website.

The same method is easily done with either XSII or SO3, due to the fact cutscenes are prompted or pausable and not Automated like many action games.

Were I to know the proper method I likely have the hardware myself to accomplish this. From what I can tell it doesnt take anything extravagant, just a third party FMV capturing program.

And when it comes down to the cutscenes, XS2, and Star Ocean 3, are by FAR more chock full of viable scenes, large numbers of FMV sequences, and manipulative potential than most, if not any, other games out there. The graphical quality is excessively high in both as well(though XS2 is less so than it's predecessor).

There are innumerable AMVs of Xenogears, Soul Calibur II, and other such games, so I again, am surprised games with so much "theatrical" content go unused.

First off, how do you know that it is 'quite easy' if you don't know what they are? For all you know it takes an hour and a dozen pieces of software to rip an FMV from a game like XS2.

Additionally, nobody who gives a tin shit about quality would bother to use footage that someone else has already ripped, compressed, and put online. See most DBZ/LP vids for proof of this.

Most software used to capture FMVs isn't real time - the speed is only limited by how fast the data transfers.

From what it sounds like to me, you don't really have any idea of what it takes to capture scenes from these games beyond 'certain methods that are probably easy.' For all you know it's a lot more difficult. Maybe you should do some research before you make a claim of it being easy?

That still doesn't change the fact that people are going to stick to what's A, easy to do, and B, looks good. If I really wanted to I could output my computer to a camera and record cutscenes and gameplay footage from Final Fantasy 11, then make an AMV from it. However, I won't, because I'd have to record the footage without the menus on the top/bottom/sides of the screen (which makes it that much harder to <i>play</i> the game), the gameplay footage still won't look that good... etc etc etc.

If there is interest and if it's technically feasible, I'm sure someone will step up to the plate. Otherwise, why don't you give it a shot?

To be honest I would, but I don't know how to operate the editing software. I know how to record things such as FMVs, the only thing I don't know how to do is record video footage from a secondary piece of hardware(IE, a PS2, or a TV).

By "Easy" I was comparing it to other things like Animes, it's not terribly harder to record video footage from a DVD than it is a PS2, if you know how to do it(not saying I do).

If I am not mistaken there is, in fact, hardware that allows connection of A/V input/output cables to a computer(I have seen it) which I assume was originally used to connect things like VCR/DVD players to computers, back before specifically designed hardware was used to do that as part of the Comp itself.

Yes, I do realize that no one would use another person's recorded footage for their own AMV(or at least, most people, there are exceptions). I was simply citing Split Infinity's efforts as an example of this being quite feasable.

I'm not saying it doesnt require skill, but you are making it sound like it requires multiple hundreds of dollars in software/hardware or something, it does not.

And yes, people will always prefer quick and easy over slow and high quality.

Like I said, yes, I would do it myself, but I dont know how to make an AMV(I have no experience with editing software, merely recording).

Sorry, dont see an edit button, so let me correct myself.

By "not requiring several hundred" I mean only requiring 2 maybe 3 pieces of hardware. Total cost under 300$.

Just so people dont go "Costs over 100$! Liar!".

I don't expect you to say something like that, but you never know what random trolls might say *shrugs*

Xenosaga Episode I - Woglinde

Post by Arbalest65 » Tue Apr 12, 2005 9:12 am

Here is my question...does anyone know where I can find detailed specifications and possibly a diagram of the structure of the Woglinde?
