If you can is it a good idea

Post by batmanMG » Tue Mar 29, 2005 11:23 pm

Is it a good idea to use an anime/song mix that has already been used. Will people automatically give you a 2 for originality. I had an idea for a vid and then i searched to see if someone else didn't do it. well my hopes fell when i found someone else beat me to it. The only thing similar between my idea and theres seems to be the anime/music combo. My thoughts on what scenes go where are completely different. What are your thoughts on this dilemma in general.

Every video is unique, regardless of the song of the footage. The same songs are going to be done over and over to the same fotage; you can't ignore that, and you just have to accept it. However, then you need to just take a different approach to your video; give it a different direction, or give it a different story than what you've previously seen or suspected people of doing.

There are always many many many interesting and original ways to interpret the footage and the song.

If the video you want to make involves a combination that someone else has done, go ahead and make it. To paraphrase the tagline from Takashi Miike's Sabu, Other People's Opinions Don't Matter. (and of course, any discussion of potential originality scores assumes that it will get opinions, which is far from guaranteed.)

The only pitfalls with repeating combinations is if the combo has been used in a really well-known video or has been used in only one other video in the database. In the first case, your vid may get dismissed as a follower; in the second, there may be some flack from the other creator for you ripping off their idea.....if they ever find out that your video exists.

If the combo is sufficiently non-mainstream that you had to search to see if it had been done before, you're probably good to go.

I say go for it. Do what you want to do? I've stopped and asked this question a couple of times myself. You just have to put alot of effort and thought into your video to make it stand out.

If you really want to do it, go for it, but if there's a version out that's better, or that you like a lot, then it seems.... for lack of a politer way to put it, a waste of time if your trying to create something new. If its just for the fun of, who cares what others think, you had a good time doing it, and thats far more valuable than other's opinions. That's one of the reason's I'm glad I am creating my own audio track.

dude if you just thought of it then it's a 100% original but if it's influenced by or from another video you saw, it is still original but if u copy somoenes' idea totally then it is not original and like wats his name said about well known videos and stuff.

In all practicality, depends on how good the other video is, and your skill level in relation to that. If you're positive that you can do better, give it a shot. But realize that your video will often be compared to the other in some viewers' eyes, so that if yours doesn't measure up, people will tend to let you know. That's the major pitfall of using the song/anime combination of an existing video.

Personally I think that you should just go ahead and do your idea regardless of the number of people who have used your song and anime choice together. Yes, it is really neat when you have an idea that noone had ever thought of doing before, but even if it is the same, so what. Each video is unique in its own little way and just because people have done a idea that you have doesn't mean that they are that great. One thing that I like doing is doing a seach to see if my anime and music combo has been done and view any existing videos to see if I can do any better or want to take a completely different approach.
