Looking for an anime with 16-year-old main characters...FMP?

If you look at it, a vast majority of anime main characters are around 15 or 16, there's really not that many college-age characters. Is it any coincidence that the age of legal consent in Japan is 16? Esacflowne has giant robots and some roughly 16 y/o characters. . .some other shows that feature characters that age are Ayashi no Ceres, Fruits Basket, Comic Party, His and Her Circumstances, Please Teacher. . .sorry for the lack of giant robot shows, but I like the cute and romantic shows more. Of course, there's also my favorite anime, Scrapped Princess, which has a girl destined to bring destruction to the world upon her 16th birthday. It's being released in two weeks on DVD, and there -are- some giant robots involved.

Actually, age of consent last I looked was 13 in Japan. 16 is the age at which society stops caring that she's still a high-schooler

Because I can't COUNT how many times I had a guy eat all my pencils. Not to mention how may times I have seen a robot as a leader of a gang (especially one that tjought it was human! And 50 year old guys wearing no shirt and overalls? Well I don't live in the southern U.S. so it's a lot less frequent up here.

An anime with 16-year-olds in it? Wouldn't that be... ummm... nearly all of them?

I guess the college-age crowd can always go for Trigun and Cowboy Bebop.
