I consider myself a pretty tough guy.
I like guns, anime, and reading.
I can watch a coroner peel the skin from the skull of a murder victim, and I only cringe a little when they start snapping ribs.
I can look a hardened criminal in the eye as the jury speaks their verdict sending them to prison for years.
I once had a dislocated ankle re-set without any anesthetic.
But when I heard the late Israel Kamakawiwo'ole (Hawaiian name) sing Somewhere over the rainbow... (It's really amazing to me that this particular song's been out for 12 years and this is the first time I heard the whole thing.)......
(amazon has a clip http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/de ... 1?v=glance )
I was actually reduced to tears. And I don't mean the "there's something in my eyes" kind.
I mean the "Damn, I'm glad that there's no one in the room with me right now" kind. Over the years I must have heard that song a thousand times by dozens of singers. Either in movies or back in school. But this version...
It made me wish that I had the time and ability to make a good AMV.
Unfortunately, I have neither the software, training, or time to do something truly wonderful with this song.
Is there any that can create an AMV that captures the beauty of this song?
A voice capable of so much strength, yet singing so gently...
A song of longing, but not without hope... and
the potential of it all.
for True Love, Friendship, or even that single ray of Hope or beauty that shines in that moment when someone believes that there's nothing else left and all someone can see is the darkness.
At least that's what I imagine when I hear this song at night when I'm the last one still awake.
Anyone up to the challenge of capturing something like that in an AMV?
somewhere, there's a video...

That's actually a really cool rendition of that song, from what I heard of the clip!
Something very different from the usual rock-music amv fare.
Maybe it's because I'm preparing to use it for another vid or two, but I can really see Haibane Renmei working with this, the emotions are right on.
I just happen to have the entire series ripped and preprocessed for editing on my HD right now too. hmm.

My Eyes Are The Victim's Eyes.
My Hands Are The Assailant's Hands.
