I personally use The Core and BSPlayer for normal viewing, and the VLC player when I want an alternate method, like playing incomplete AVI or curupted files that won't play in the other codec reliant players.
The VLC player does its own decoding rather than relying on codecs though, hence its limited in what it can play.

I have reviewed nearly the first page, I am slow because I am over obsest with gaia instead of amv now! but I am working on them, and have completed two more videos today.
Btw:: Thanks bakadeshi I downloaded two of the three you recommended and will be testing them on the videos that wouldnt play for me, I hate when you spend forever downloading video and then it doesnt work
