out of curiosity, have you tried telling her to stop sending pms? and if you did, has she stopped?
it seems she'll understand if you can't or don't want to talk to her. example:

ok, bye, talk to u later
much simpler and more polite than blocking or banning her, no?
if you attempt to continue the conversation, you'll find that she is interested in chatting, not just spamming. she doesn't have aim (which would also be more convenient for private instant messaging). i could point her to the irc channel, but i've heard that chatroom is often slow.
my suspicion that she is just interested in talking to forumgoers is that all the "hi" pms i've received from her were during times i was on the forum. although, i can't explain why she decided pm you (ari) when you weren't logged in the forums.
i'm kinda surprised members are so afraid of OT chat in private messages. it's as though the riddance of OT in the forums has turned some of us anti-OT with regards to all AMV-related communication.

That's what I thought it was - that she was PM'ing people who also happened to be online at the time she was. I didn't have a problem with that. But my PM came in a 9am. I left for work at 7:30am and didn't come back till 4:30pm - I wasn't on the forum, and even if I *had* been on the forum, no one but the mods and admins know when I'm on the forum.downwithpants wrote:my suspicion that she is just interested in talking to forumgoers is that all the "hi" pms i've received from her were during times i was on the forum. although, i can't explain why she decided pm you (ari) when you weren't logged in the forums.
I don't mind talking with a new member. What I don't want is to be one of many recipients of some spamming spree. If she'd tried to start a discussion (about *anything* at all), I would have replied happily.

Judging from http://www.animemusicvideos.org/phpBB/s ... nland4ever I'd say English isn't exactly her/his strong suite...
I'll add it to the agenda for the next mod meeting what we should do, if anything.

Re: Newbies sending private messages that only say "hi&
dude, you are a moron. stop getting pissed off because someone wants to say hi. as for ladyofthewesterlands4ever, i know her personally. we talk everyday, and she isn't trying to spam anyone. she likes to talk to new people, and being a newbie on here is kinda hard, cause you want to make so friends and yet everyone gets pissed at you when you say "hi". instead of gettting pissed off at them, why don't you say hi back and start a conversation, cause i'm sure that you would meet some people that are a lot like you.megaman917 wrote:A few newbies have sent me private messages that say nothing but "hi", (Actually one them gave me a link to their AMV.), and I find it a little annoying. I don't know if I'm the only one, but still, It would be good if you tell them not to do this. I don't see the point
TO ALL THE NEW BLOOD AROUND HERE; UNLESS YOU WANT TO ASK ME SOMETHING SPECIFIC IN REGARDS TO a-m-v.org, ASK ME SOMETHING ABOUT ONE OF MY VIDEOS, COMMENT ON ONE OF MY VIDEOS; DO NOT SEND ME ANY PRIVATE MESSAGES!!!!!!!
Why the hell argue with a girl, if you know you won't win?

First off, the personal attack is uncalled for.hilaryandkai4ever wrote:dude, you are a moron. stop getting pissed off because someone wants to say hi. as for ladyofthewesterlands4ever, i know her personally. we talk everyday, and she isn't trying to spam anyone. she likes to talk to new people, and being a newbie on here is kinda hard, cause you want to make so friends and yet everyone gets pissed at you when you say "hi". instead of gettting pissed off at them, why don't you say hi back and start a conversation, cause i'm sure that you would meet some people that are a lot like you.
Second, she's definately giving people the impression that she wants to spam. The PM system is very much similar to email. If you want to carry on a real-time conversation, you use an IM service.
Third, if she wants to randomly chat, there's an IRC channel.

So I'm a moron because I don't like getting pointless PMs that say nothing but "hi"?
So I'm a moron because I don't like to be bothered by pointless messages?
Since when is just saying "hi" and nothing else a conversation starter?
Please explain this to me.
When did I accuse anyone of spamming?
When did I say that I was pissed off?
Why do you think that I was directing this entire thread toward your friend?
What makes you think that everyone here is interested in starting a conversation with anyone?
What makes you think think that the .org is a place like Yahoo or AOL?
Am I supposed to care that you know someone personally?
Where do you get off telling me what I should or should not do?
If anyone here is pissed off, it's you.
I don't really care if anyone is a lot like me or not.
I didn't really come here to make friends.
I came here to share my AMVs, download other folks AMVs, join in or start discussions in the forums, and earn the respect of other members here.
I respect the fact that; everyone here is different, has different reasons for joining the .org, different tastes in anime, different tastes in music, different tastes in AMVs, etc., etc., etc.
You need to respect the fact that: many people don't like to be bothered by those little "hi" PMs; not everyone is here to make friends; not everyone is interested in starting conversations.
I started this thread because I was looking at the fact that several members have been sending those pointless PMs and the possibility that more and more new people were going to start to do this. Personally, I rather not be bothered by them.
If you and your friend want to make friends, or better yet earn respect from others, share your AMVs, download other folks AMVs, join in or start discussions in the forums.
